Railroad Probabilities.
TCIoa-nrViA-rA in t.hifl isstlfi will be found
a notice of application for charter of
the South Carolina Public Service
Corporation, which corporation proposes?if
a charter be granted?to
condemn lands in many of the counties
of this State, Lexington being included
among them. With the six
railroads which now run through
Lexington and with the AugustaAiken-Columbia
electric line, which
'ifc seems to be an assured fact, and with
the road now applying for charter,
Lexington can boast of having the
greatest number of miles of railroads
of any county in the State. We are
glad to see these new corporations
springing up, and we sincerely trust
that these lines will be built. NothrV"
' " *
ing helps to build a town and county
Hke these corporations. They turn
loose more money perhaps than do all
ether corporations combined and in
this wav the whole country becomes
I flush with money. This being the
case we think it becomes the dnty of
every good citizen to lend whatever
aid they can to these railroad magnates
and help make the proposed
corporation a success.
The above corporation proposes to
build a line from Charleston to Orangeburg,
thence up the west side of the
Congaree through the Sandy Run section
of this county into Columbia. If
this line is built, and why shouldn't it
be, it will go through a country that
needs railway facilities as bad as any
in the State, and we believe our people
in that portion of the county will
do <3.11 in their power to aid the corporators
in carrying cut their plans.
Ag^in, we are reliably informed
that the Southern has a line picked
out which starts at New Brookland,
in this county, and comes out by Lexington
on through the Hollow Creek
section, touching the Saluda line at
Delmar, from which place it will take
a direct course to Mt. Willing and on
to Saluda court house, thence to
Greenwood where it will connect with
the Southern. This last named route
will traverse one of the richest sections
of the State, and will open up
trade an along tne line. Again, we
express the hope that these proposed
lines will provfc to be more than * 'hdt
air," and that it wiU not be long before
the work win commence and the
lines be put in operation.
Leroy F. Youmans, statesman, soldier,
friend, one of the most eloquent
gjp? and distinguished lawyers South Carolina
has ever produced, is no more.
He served his State three times as
attorney general; fought bravely in
the Confederate army, represented
the whites of South Carolina, who
were prosecuted in the United States
courts in the Ku-Klux trials. He lived
to see the State he loved overcome
every trial, and died in the confidence,
love and esteem of every South Carolinian.
In the death of LeRoy Youman's
the State has suffered . an irreparable
loss?a man is gone whose
place can never be filled. 1
Congress convened Monday and already
it bids fair to be interesting. |

Mr. Edwin Harman, who has been
feeble for many month, died at his
home, about four miles north of Lexington,
this morning at 5 o'clock/ at
the age of 83 years. Mr. Harman
was an old Confederate soldier having
fought gallantly during the war between
the States. He was a quiet,
inoffensive citizen, and won the esteem
of his neighbors.
He will be buried tomorrow at
St. Stephens' church at 11 a. m.,
where the funeral services will be
held. Afterwards the Masons will use
their impressive ceremony, he being

For Thin
Babies
Fat is of great account
to a baby; that is why
babies are fat. If your
baby is scrawny, Scott's
Emulsion is what he
wants. The healthy baby
stores as fat what it does
not need immediately for
bone and muscle. Fat
babies are happy ; they do
not cry; they are rich ;
their fat is laid up for
time of need. They are
happy because they are
comfortable. The fat surrounds
their little nerves
and cushions them. When
they are scrawny those
nerves are hurt at,every
ungentle -touch. They
delight in Scott's Emulsion.
It is as sweet as
wholesome to them.
