Fitzgerald, Ga., Nov. 2.?Benson Handley, charged with poisoning his wife, was convicted today of murder f in the first degree with a recommendation of mercy and was senten/ed to life imprisonment. Handley and his wife were prominently connected and had only been married two weeks Fine Potatoes. Mr. A. L. Smith has our thanks for some of the finest potatoes we have ever seen. The variety seems to be a cross between the Nancy Hall and the pumpkin yam. This same variety took l9t and 2nd premiums at the county fair. At the State fair Mr. Smith's potatoes were the largest, bht the premiums were given to other varieties. Nevertheless, he received $40 in premiums. His wife received $18 on her flowers, and they were the favorites of all the ladies and lovers of flowers. Gone to the Chaingang. Sheriff P. *H. Corley accompanied by Mr. J. L. Langford, county supervisor, and B. F. Neese, as assistant guard, carried Wm. Graichen last Sunday tendered his resignation as pastor of -St. Stephen's church to take effect December 1st. Mr. Graichen has served here for years with satisfaction 1 in discharging his ministerial duties. He is a gentleman of culture, an able and consciencious divine, and his place will be hard to'fill. His wife in the community is looked upon as a lady of refinement and her work in church, school and society is considered of inestimable value, and her work along this line will not easily be supplied. This feat was accomplished by Commander Robert E. Peary of the United States navy.
