TOWN CLE&BED OF ALL NEGROES. Insult to White Girl Leads to Wholesale Expulsion. Casey, 111., Oct. 23.?This place,, with a population of 3,500, persons, is without a negro citizen, following the troubles of Friday and Saturday, in which the negro population was cleared out, after a white girl had#been insulted by John Johnson, a negro hotecook. A mob was formed immediatel ly after the arrest of Johnson on Friday, but the negro was saved from harm bjr a ruse. The police judge announced that Johnson would have four hours in which to prepare for his defense in court, and he was then hurried out of town without the knowledee of the members of the mob, which was without a leader. The mob, learning this, became furious, and immediately started to free the city of the negro population. <. A limited number of minutes in which to leave were given to negro barber shop employes and hotel porters, cooks, and laborers. The police and several deputies mixed with the mob, and the order to clean out was j obeyed with alacrity, i . He confessed * to the perpetration of the horrible crime, and attributed his awful fate to drinking.
