Reelected President of State Fair for
Third Term Because of Valuable
Services Given by Him?Secretary
Love Also Reelected.
It is not often that the president of
the State Agricultural and Mechani
cal society is honored with a third
term, but because of the valuable services
rendered by Mr. G. A. Guignard
of Lexington, he was paid that high
compliment last Thursday night. Rules
were suspended at the meeting and
Mr. W. D. Evans, himself a former .
president, in. a brief speech, pointing
.out the work of Mr. Guignard, nominated
him for another year of service.
Mr. Guignard was elected by a rising
vote.
- There was no'opposition to Mr. A.
W. Love, who has done such good
work as secretary, and he too was reelected/
' Mr. Love will reappoint as
assistant Mr. J. M. Cantey. Mr. A.
G. LaMotte was reelected treasurer,
which is a deserved compliment to
his work for the past several years.
Other important work was done by
the society.

Destroying Arms.
Habana, Oct. 25.?Carrying further
the policy under which the arms surrendered
by the insurgents have been
destroyed, orders have been given
that a'great quantity of arms, the accumulation
of the last 40 years, now
stored in the casements of Morro castle
here, be thrown from the battlements
of the castle into the sea. The
work is being done by the present
garrison of Morro castle, under the
supervision of the American officers.
Most of the guns are of obsolete pattern.
About 10,000 stands of arms are
thus to be rendered useless. It is intended
to do away with smaller accumulations
of arms in all the other
fortresses of the island. This destruction
of weapons is entirely a precautionary
measure.

Awful Death is Fire.
Kansas City, Mo., Oct. 25.?More
than twenty-five persons are believed
to be buried in the ruins of the old
chamber of commerce building, which
was destroyed by fire early this morning.
Firemen and police, also, estimate
thht fifty others were injured
and it is said at a hospital that the
death list will be swelled, as many
were mortally hurt, either from burns
or injuries received in jumping.
Everyone in the building was sleeping
when first broke out. In the mad
scramble men, women and children
fled to the roof. When the firemen
arrived the building was a mass of
flames. Fire ladder.3 were stretched,
but did not reach to the frantic, panicof

who jumped were caught by firemen.
Others were found nearly unconscious J
in smoke filled halls. When the build- J
ing collapsed it is believed that at !
least twenty-five were carried down J
into the mass of burning debris.
An Awful Cough Cured.
"Two years ago our little girl had a
touch of pneumonia, which left her with
an awful cough. She had spells of
coughing, just like one with the whooping
cough and some thought she would
not get well at all. We got a bottle of
Chamberlain's Cough Remedy, which
acted like a charm. She stopped coughing
and got stout and fat," writes Mrs.
Ora Bussard. Brubaker, 111. This remedy
is for sale by The Kaufmann Drug

Tribute of Respect.
At a Sunday school meeting at St.
Peter's church, October the 11th, 1906,
a committee was appointed to draw
up suitable resolutions on the death of
George W. Wessenger, a former raember.of
our Sunday school. The following
tribute was adopted:
Whereas, God in his alwise providence
has seen fit to remove from this
world our young friend, George W.
Wessinger, a former member of our
Sunday school; Therefore, be it resolved
1. That we bow in humble submission
to the will of Him who doeth all
things well.
2. That, we express ourselves as sad
that one so young should be removed
so early, but we recognize this fact,
that it "is his eternal gain to depart
and be with Christ.
3. That a copy of these resolutions
be sent to the Lexington Dispatch for
publication, and also be conveyed to
the bereaved family.

Full Eights Asked for the
Japanese.
Washington, Oct. 25. ? Viscount
Aoki, the Japanese ambassador, at a
conference with Secretary Root at
the State department today, made the
request, in behalf of his government,
that the United States see that Japanese
subjects in California were accorded
their full rights under the
treaty of 1894, including the right of
children to freely attend the public
schools of San Francisco from which
they had been excluded, which was
the chief cause of complaint. Secre
tary Root will take up the matter
with the president and it is likely that
representations will be made to the
authorities of California.
Danger From the Plague, f
There's grave danger from the plague
of coughs and colds that are so prevalent,
unless you take Dr. King's New
Discovery for Consumption, Coughs
and Colds. Mrs. Geo. Walls, of Forest
City, Me., writes: "Its a Godsend to
people living in climates where coughs
and colds prevail, I find it quickly ends
them. It prevents Pneumonia, cures
LaGrippe, gives wonderful relief in
Asthma and Hay Fever, and makes
weak lungs strong enough to ward off
consumption, couglis and colds. 50c.
