At the examination of teachers last Friday there were eighteen applicants, sixteen white and two colored. Out fy of the number eight passed for second -grade, none for the first. The two colored failed entirely. The board passed upon several diplomas and issued first grade certificates to tne sp holders thereof. C_i Joint Council Meeting. Meeting of Joint Council of Bethel charge will be held at White Rock, at 10 o'clock a. m. sharp, on Saturday in October before second Sunday. Members of this council are requested to be prompt in attendance, as matters of importance will come before this meeting. To the Editor of the Dispatch: Mr. Editor, please allow me space in your valuable colums to thank my many friends who so liberally turned out and supported me in the past primary elections. I am truly grateful to the Democratic voters of Lexington county for the vote I received and take this opportunity of thanking them for their great confidence. While I have been defeated, I feel proud that I can say that I have all reasons to believe that it was done by a good man and a gentleman, and as I retire to my farm duties I also feel proud to say that I can do so feeling that I have a host of friends all over the county. Respectfully,. W. T. Craps. Will Start Life Over Again. On receiving notice of the arrest of young Robert C. Brockington in Jacksonville, Fla., Saturday, Detective J. W. Dunning, of the Columbia police department, accompanied by J. T. Melton, cashier of the State bank, proceeded to Jacksonville for the purpose of bringing back young Brockington. On their arrival there they called at police headquarters where the young man was delivered into their keeping. The money which was taken from the young man at the time of his arrest, fl,910, was turned over to the bank official, who paid a reward of $100 to Officer Johnson, who made the arrest. Mr. Melton speaks very highly of Brockinnton, and says that during the two years that he had been in the employment of the bank he had proved a most excellent clerk and that he would not be prosecuted, but would be sent to his relatives at Winnsboro, S. C. Arrangements were made by his friends to pay up his shortage. He is thoroughly penitent and will start life over again and feels over grateful to the bank and his friends.
