Brockington, aged nine teen, who Has Deen tor aDout two years collecting clerk for the State Bank of Columbia, has disappeared with ?2,000 belonging to the bank. Shortly after the bank was opened for business Wednesday morning, young Brockington was given a sealed package containing ?2,000, with instructions to ship it by express to one of the bank's customers. Since the moment that he put on his hat and left the bank with the package in his poeket, he has not been seen by any of the bank people, nor have the eflBcers who were informed of the matter after an interval been able to ascertain what became of him. Brockington was arrested in Florida on the 21st, Thursday. He is a mere lad, and seems thoroughly ashamed of his escapade. He had all the money with him except ?90. Eight masked and heavily armed burglars held the people of White Cloud at bay early today, while they rifled the county bank and attempted also to rob the bank of R. Gannin & Son. Tokio, Sept. 31.?The annexation of Cuba by the United States is urged by the newspaper Jiji in an editorial today, which may be said to express the opinion of many throughout Japan. Pavitt, the wife of a farmer near Media, Pa., was beaten to death with a hatchet on Friday by an unknown assassin in the absence of her husband William Kelson, a 19year-old negro, has been arrested charged with the crime.
