The vote on yesterday was light,
the fair weather inducing the farmers
to tall the soil rather than the field of
politics. On the face of it, it would
appear that the dispensary has been
defeated, and yet it would be well for
those who wish to know the real situation
to look deeper into it than may
Appear from the election returns.
There is a degree of ^purest among
the people, which is puzzling to the
Hf student, who sees around him so much
of prosperity and well being. The
situation will require the diagnosis of
a statesman, rather than the work of
a politician.
It is all over, however, for the present,
and we are all glad. Let us now
-shake hands and unite our hearts and
minds for the moral and material upjfc
building of South Carolina. The
officers elected are all good men, and
true, and will give tne state a cieau
p administration of its affairs.

Marriage of Dr. Julius D.
Dreher.
Dr. Julius D. Dreker, of the Selwood i
ection of this county, was married in
I ftcranton, Pa., last week toMissEmeHne
Kirtland Richmond. The event
attracted a great deal of attention in
- society circles, and was attended by
' many distinguished educators and
thinkers who wished to show their
friendship to the di3tinguishec|20uple.
The bride is a well knowj^ philantropic
worker, and has devoted her
? Ji'life and wealth to the doing of this
% kind of work. Her circle of acquaintance
includes the most noted people
of the country, whose devotion to
her was evidenced by their presence
||hj| and in other ways. ^
Dr. Dreher i3 a distinguished edu- j
cator and was for many years presi-j
I\ dent of Roanoke college in Virginia.
' Recently he was appointed United
States consul to the Society Island,
where he will take his bride after
they have visited their friends and
the parent of Dr. Dreher 'in this
comity. We extend to this great sc n
| of Lexington our sincerest congratulations.

Death, of Xr. D. H. Wheeler.
We have just learned of the death
of Mr. D. H. Wheeler, who lived near
Piney Woods church, which occurred
fr Monday. He was about eighty year3
old, and was one of our oldest and
wealthiest citizens; a good, clever
man, who loved his church and w?s
^ways liberal in its support. Though
true to his convictions he h ad a good
heart and was reasonable in all things,
but his work has ceased here and he
will mingle with those who preceeded
him to that better land where troubles
are not known and peace has no end.
His remains were buried at Piney
