Court is in session and our streets are crowded with the good people of the county. They are always welcome to our town, and the best that there is in it. Judge Klugh presides with ease and dignity and impresses all with hi3 fairness and ability. Mrs. Polly Smith, quite an aged lady, perhaps,the^ldest in that section, died at the home of her son. Andrew Smith, south of Leesville, Wednesday 8th, in her 89th year. Aunt Polly, as she was known, was a good old soul, and was well thought of in her , community. It was a battle royle between the candidates seeking the vote and the poor voter seeking to avoid committing himself. The truth is all the candidates are so delightful, so pleasant, so persuasive, and suave that a voter is up against a hard proposition when it comes to making a choice. The candidates for the House acquited themselves with credit, although nothing new was brought out in the discussion except perhaps the clean bill of health which candidates Sturkie gave to all the county afficials. To the Editor of the Dispatch: The hot, dry weather of last week ha9 considerably injured the cotton prospect, but corn has held up remarkably well, and is unusually fine. Some case of fever in our community, but they are all getting along nicely. ? Peaches have been abundant and very fine, but they are about gone. Watermelons are scarce and somewhat below the average in size and quality. Mr. John D. Amick and Miss Nettie, his sister, of Columbia, have returned home after a visit to their parents, Mr. and Mr3. H. E. Amick. Mr. W. H. Sills and family of Batesburg, spent a few days with relatives in this section last week. The protracted meeting will commence at Shady Grove next Sunday. Rev. J. B. Haigler ha9 announced "Harvest Home" services in each of his congregations. The first of these services will be at Bethel (High Hill) the first Sunday in September. H. Jones' friends all the while felt that the report was a slander, but they are gratified that their confidence in Gen. Jones has been so emphatically proven.
