Young 3?on FightPeak, July 23.?Oil Saturday morning Loney Ellisor shot Earle Davis in the leg just above the knee. Both 'j are white. It seems that the two boys had a little fuss on Friday night and Saturday morning Elisor went from here to Alston, just across the river, where Davis was on duty, working for the Western Union Telephone company. Elisor stated that Davis on seeing him began cursing him and hitting him over the head with a pair of pliars. At that Elisor shot him in the leg. Davis dropped his pliars as soon as the ball struck him and the fuss was ended. Mr. Davis went to Columbia to have the ball taken out, while Mr. Elisor is here with his father.?Columbia Record. At a big barbecue in Lexington county a few days ago, the candidates for the legislature addressed the dear people on the issues of the day, and what do you suppose those issues were? Good roads, education, taxation, the dispensary? No you're wrong. They discussed the Columbia State and Frazer Lyon. And it remains to be seen yet what this has to do with the election of legislators in that county. Can it be that these aspirants to legislative honors want to go to Columbia to put the State out of business and banish Lyon to Africa or some remote part of the globe? Or did they just talk for the sake of?well a few votes they might gain. We have a deep sympathy for Hie Lexington voters, if they must continue to hear such haranges.?Greenville Mountaineer. Raleigh, N. C., July 26.?Several j thousand factory employees, particularly cotton mill operatives, quit work at Hope Mills, Cumberland county, N. C., and factories are all idle. The cause of the strike was the importation of a number of foreigners, mostly Italians, to work. The factories suffered for the past two years on account of lack of help, and the owners thought the only solution was the importation of foreign white help, the native help being exhausted. This hostile movement on the part of natives is regarded as a serious blow to industries at this time. Attempts are being made to adjust the matter, but its success in very doubtful. Card of Thanks. Total shipments from January 1 to July 14, this year, were, 132,425,000. Total shipments for the same period of last year were 111,380,000. The increase in .shipments for this up to July 14, was 21,055,000 cigars. Galveston's Sea Wall makes life now as safe in that city as on the highest uplands. E. W. Russell Sage, who died in New York on Sunday, left an estate valued at $100,000,000 and no children. Fifteen persons were killed by the collapsing of a block of buildings in South Farmington, Mass., on Monday. A gasoline tank exploded in Durham, N. Luckily the reptile did not bite him and was soon killed. Tvler Cunningham, a white man, / - - w ' - . tried to kill his wife in the suburbs of j Columbia Tuesday afternoon with a pistol. The bullet missed its mark, however, but struck an aged woman, seriously injuring her. Cunningham was drunk.
