Mr. | Smith and family certainly have our -sympathy of this sad accident be- I falling them. I Value of a Newspaper. I never took a paper that didn't pay I me more than I paid for it. One time an old friend of mine started a paper way down South and sent a copy to I me and I subscribed just to encourage him and after awhile it published an L order to sell a lot at public auction. So I inquired about the lot and told a friend to run it up to $50. He bid off the lot at $38 and it sold in less than a I month for $100, so I made $62 clear by I v taking that paper. My father told me that when he was a young man he I -saw a notice in a paper that a school I teacher was wanted away off in a dis tant county, and he went and got the I ** situation, and a little girl was sent to I him and after awhile she grew up sweet and beautiful and he married 1 her. Now if he had not taken the W paper what do you suppose would I have become of me? I would have been some other fellow, or may be I I wouldn't have been at all.?Bill Arp. COLUMBIA SUPPLY Forgot the Umbrella. A gentleman went into a shop In Birmingham and said he wanted to buy a Dalmatian dog to take abroad with him, according to the New Orleans Picayune. "Certainly, sir," said the assistant "I've got the very thing." In a quarter of an hour he brought out the animal. The customer paid the money and departed. Before his train time, however, a heavy shower fell. The gentleman returned with the dog in a state of great indignation. "Look at him!" he cried. "You told me he was a Dalmatian. Give me my money back. All his spots are washed off in the rain." The proprietor apologized. "It's all that stupid fool's mistake." He called to his assistant. "James, did you sell that dog to this gentleman?" "Yes, sir." '' "Well, you ought to be ashamed of yourself. Don't you know an umbrella goes with that dog?"
