Washington^ June 14.?Senator Tillman's bill that passed the senate a day or two ago prohibiting corporations from making money contributions in connection with political elections, almost without objection, and which will undoubtedly pass the house, is causing the congressional committees of both the Republican and Democratic parties no end of trouble. There is not the least doubt in the mind of Senator Tillman that the house will be as eager to pass. the bill as was the case with the senate, ilis realized that there is strong sentiment in favor of the early passage of the bill, but the managers of the campaign committees are wondering where they will turn to draw funds needed this summer if the bill becomes law. That is no small matter. Big sums of money are needed to defray the expenses of congressional campaigns in doubtful districts, and this year wil/t not apparently be an exception; Senator Tillman says that the recent disclosures brought out in the insurance investigations of contributions to campaign funds have created throughout the entire country such a widespread sentiment of opposition and hostility to the present system that it is believed the house could not do otherwise than follow the lead of the senate in the matter. To do otherwise would make it the champion of corruption and fraud. The bill as it passed the senate makes it unlawful for any national bank or any corporation organized Dy authority of any laws of congress to make a money contribution with any election to any political office. It is also unlawful for any corporation whether organized under the laws of congress or not to contribute to a campaign fund in a presidential or congressional election. TILLMAN TALES STRAIGHT. | The Committee Should Have Forced the Witness to Give the Name of | "The Man Between" Lanahan and the Dispensary Board. i Washington, June 8.?Discussing the dispensary investigation today, Senator Tillman said it is very strange that the committee forced Mr. Lewis W. Parker to testify so far and no further. "Why did they not make Mr. Parker tell the name of the some-kind-of an official in South Carolina whom Lanahan had employed? I am satisfied that Lanahan has been guilty of all kinds of bribery and corruption and has been for some time. What they ought to do is to make Mr. Parker name the man. They cannot compel Lanahan to come down and testify against Evans and these fellows, but they can get him down there if they prosecute him. If this man, whoever he is, has any grit in him and is representing Lanahan in a legitimate way, as he may have been doing, then he would prosecute Lanahan for slander. Lanai han is the man they need to get hold of. He is one of the head devils of the whole stink."?Cor. Record. Joab Edwards and Mr. A. E. Derrick, of Leesville, and D. T. Hare, of Summit, are hereby appointed as the committee on enrollment for Gilbert Hollow Township, and U. Eleven persons were killed and others were seriously injured by the explosion of a dynamite plant near Lancaster, Pa., on June 9th.
