Just what we anticipated for sometime?tbat
the whiskey question
would be the paramount issue?all
others being side tracked.
We realize the importance of the
great question and its present solution,
but have endeavored to have it
eliminated from our politics and have
& it deeided:entirely as a moral quesfj
tion, allowing every citizen who
booses to oast his vote for or against
y whiskey, quietly aod umifluenced
But the fight is on in good earnest
fey both sides. The prohibitionists
having issued a cell to all the Democratic
voters of South Carolina to
?|:v : elect representatives who will work
for the repeal of such laws as they
& .
^ - desire to have repealed and will enact
such laws as tbey desires enacted.
The dispensaritf s v*re marshaling
their forces and deliberating plans
by which they hope to retain the disr5
pensary as tbe hest/solution of the
1 whiskey question.
; Now, we look for, not only a foil
fiedged prohibition State ticket, but
for legislators in each aod every
Annniv aftvno&tintf and Standing UD
1 for tbeir principles. Well, if nothV
jug else will do, we can stand the
racket and will tie;cise our right
and trust that all others may do the {
tei same. In such a race, however, we
want no moral cowards, bat men of
prmeiotoe, either for or against, as
' tbeir convictions and consciences may
dictate.

Willie Jones and bis staff, the CoIf

of South Carolina and members
of the Chamber of Commerce
will act as escorts for the veterans on

Another most attractive feature of
* the ocoassion Thursday eveniog will
be a play compiled by Secretary E
B. Clark entitled, "Under the Southern
Cross,1' in which amateur talent
will take part. Mr. D'O ze of Baltimore
who assisted in the production
of "Damon and Pythias'' here, has
been engaged to train the cast.
On Friday 6veniDg as a finale the

President Roosevelt has asked congress
to appropriate an additional
sum of $500,000 to meet conditions
aft San Francisco. The Canadian
parliament voted $100,000 for the
* relief
of San Francisco, bat President
Roosevelt declined the offer.
Large sums are going in to aid the
atrichen city from all sources, and
ere long the new city will dawn with
grand improvement.
