The Lexington Dispatch, Entered at the Post Office at; Lexington, S. C., as^second class matter. Gr. M. Harman, Editor and Publisher. The subscription price of the Dispatch is $1 a year; 50 cents fcr six months; 25 I cents for three montJis?invariably cash in advance. Circulation, 2,179, Wednesday, April 18, 1906. We publisn elsewhere in this issue ft card from Messrs Edwards and Quattlebaum relative to the dispensary matter. It seems that these gentlemen desire to take issue with a view recently advanced by this paper, ; to wit: That there ought to be a special box at every pole in which the voters could express themselves on this much mooted question. We have no obj*ctioa to these gentlemen getting their election nnder the Brice law, if they can, as that has nothing to do with the idea advanced by us. It seems that they can't secure? certainly they have not secured an election on this question under the Brice law cr otherwise. What we propose is that we have one anyway, so those who are tlected to represent us in the legislature next year will know exactly where the people of this county stand Is there any objection to this? We can see none. It would cost us nothing and at the same time supply us with a very valuable piece of information, such as we are in doubt about now. We bear it said by some that the county favors the dispensary, and by others that it does not. Which is - rr correct? We do cot know. how | can we kDow until we get the facts j and figures? For that very reason we offer this solution jast now. Another reason for advancing this idea is this: While the liquor question is one of vast importance, we realize that there are other matters to ft quire the attention of legislators gj that are likewise important. We, therefore, want legislators with other qa&lifications than that of beiDg able to cast his vote for or against the dispensary. Most anybody could do that. We would like to see this matter settled away from the fight for legislative honors, but pledge all the candidates to abide the result of the vote so had. Then we can look for the best material, feeling sure at the same time, that we will have as our legislators those who will vote for, or against, the dispensary as toe sovereign voters shall declare. Would not that reach the result desired by both sides? We think so?for the reasons already advanced. What we have said with respect to this county might be well applied to the whole state. We can see to objection to that, but we ere primarially concerned with the interests of this county. Now, we do not wis.h it understood that we oppote our friends in their efforts to get an election uncer the Brice law. Their effort now seems to be in statu quo, and we do not know the reason why, therefore, we think the next mode to settle this matter peaceably and quietly is in tue primary. The Dispatch seeks nothing save the good o* the county. Mr. James U. Jackson, the head of the proposed electric line cf railroad from Columbia to Augusta was in town last Saturday. He holds cut strong assurances that the line will w be bailt, if no obstacles are thrown in the way by the people along the route. "Significant statements were made last night by James U Jackson in regard to the extension of the Augusta Aiken lice to Columbia, says the Augusta Herald: The chief engineer has about completed the main survey. Facts, figures?all possible data?are being closed up. Mr. Jackson, equipped therewith, is packing his grip to hurry to New York for final conference with the railroad people. The preliminary work is not only well under way, but orders have been given to get in readiness to push the extension to completion." [1 CURES WHERE ALL ELSE FAILS gj Ibfi Best Cough Syrup. The Dispatch wants it distinctly understood it champions no candidate's cause and every inch of space in their behalf must be paid for, while it will always be our purpose to make the campaign pleasant for all candidate?, and to see that every one shall have a fr6e, open race, standing on his owd merits. We make this declaration prior to the opening of the campaign that all may "take due notice and govern themselves accordingly." It is said the delay in the mail service on the C N & L road is caused by the road's not providing a mail car, no contract having been nude by the government for said service The government has orderc-d the service and as soon as conveni nfc and the car secured the mails will go out. Mr. L'-ver is also looking after the mails going out from Columbia to Augusta, on the evening train*. We shouid 'have these mails by a 1 means. The la'esfc concerning the trollev lice is that general manager Jas. U. Jackson is working under contractor Twiggs a large force of men night and day cn the Augusta end preparing for the Columbia extension. It is his intention to run a schedule froca Columbia to Batesburg and return every hour, which means untold convenience for our people and great additional business for Columbia. "Let her roll." . ?St. Stephen's Easter Service. R6V J. G. Grachier delivered a very interesting and appropriate sermon in St. Stephen's church last Sunday to a large and appreciative congregation. The following is a list of those who joined: Grover Cor ley, Augustus Barre,'R*y McCartba, Ernestine Barre, May Taylor, Anna Lou Taylor, May Amick, MiDuie Amick, Dr. E P.
