Patriotism?Sons of Its Duties. j Whatever progress baa bi-en made in the world wa9 made possible by the spirit of patriotism Th? two sides of patriotism is love of God and love of country. The fellow who loves only himself cannot be a patriot for the reason that the demands of God and bis country interferes with bis selfish aims and purposes. He does not blush to profane the name of G)d, nor abuse the spirit of patriotism.. He extols that which degrades and disqualifies meo for the higher duties of life, and ridcuiesand abuses the true and the good. He is never happier thaD when he finds that he has indoctrinated a following sufficient to shape the course of State. History finds him wherever its searchlight has been thrown. The observer of today sees him, the patriot of the future will meet bim. He belcrg9 to every age and combats the high and noble things which must be held up by the patriotic mea and women when he kills out tbeir 1-aders. It becomes then a matter of firutimportance for patriotic men toguard against the selfish man and the selfish spirit, and to themselves to the task of going forward in^that which they know to be right, and that which is beet for all. Opportunities are constantly waiting upon u9 to 6how how couch of the patriotic spirit we possess. Liws that we know promotes ctimr; ouch as the dispensary, should be repealed. Offices are to be filled, juries ar6 to be selected, school trustees appointed, railroads built, towns laid out, factories erected, bank3 established, colleges founded, insurance companies raised at bome,(If the money eouthern people have invested in northern insurance companies had been iLvested in the south, not that we love the north less, but the south more, we would not have to go north for capital to build cotton mills or have to fight southern money in national elections) and many other things are to be done. Just now a trolly car line is feeling its way along that portion of Lexington couDty which was no doubt laid out by the divine hand for that purpose. Every patriotic man and woman along the line will have the opportunity of giving the right of way. When they have done this our county will stand almost at the head of the honor roll class (Aiken being first) of counties in the state in length of trolly line. It is not expected that our people will refuse the right of way. It is a patriotic duty to give it. And Lexington now awakened to a sense of her inestimable natural advantages cannot affnrd to disallow such a benefit to rest upon the ridge which Gjd made for the parting cf the waters, and safety for travel. Joab Edwards. A Favorite Remedy for Babies. Its pleasant taste and prompt cures have made Chamberlain's Cough Remedy a favorite with the mothers of small children. It quickly cures their coughs and prevents any danger of pneumonia or other serious consequences. It not only cures croup, but when given as s >on as the croupy cougli appears will prevent the attack. For sale by Kaufman Drug Co. White Han Must Hang1. Columbia Record, March 16th. A supreme court decision filed today seals the fate of Eob Smalls and John Nail, North Carolina white mem, who were convicted last spring in Darlington of the murder of a negro named Frank Scott, whom they met and shot on the road, the white men being in a drunken and rowdy condition. Smalls was only 22 years old and Nail just iy at tbe time or the killiog. Small was given a death sentence and Nail being recommended to mercy, got a life sentence. Smalls was sentenced to hang last May. The supreme court affirms the results in the lower court, and Smalls is to be resentenced in the near future. It has been many years since a white man was hung in this State for tbe murder of a Deyro, but this was a particulaily brutal and unprovoked murder of an inoffensive negro and public sentiment was against tbe white men, although it is likely that the result might have been different This popular remedy never fails to effectually cure Dyspepsia, Constipation, Sick Headache, Biliousness And ALL DISEASES arising from a Torpid Liver and Bad Digestion The natural result is good appetite and solid flesh. Dose small; elegantly sugar coated and easy to swallow. Take No Substitute.^? had the defendants bad kin or friends to work for them while the case was pending. Nail was from Moore county, N. ^ ?* ? r\ itt a U, Smalls was ircm nanacipn couniy. Tbey also shot and wounded a white man at the same time, whose team the negro was driving, for remonstrating with them for their act. Danger of Pneumonia. A cold at t-liis time if neglected is liable to cause pneumonia which is so often fatal, and even when the patient lias recovered the lungs are weakened, making them peculiarly susceptible to the development of consumption. Foley's Honey and Tar will stop the cough, heal and strengthen the lungs and prevent pneumonia. La Grippe coughs yield quickly to the wonderful curative qualities of Foley's Honey and Tar. There is nothing else "just as good." For sale by Kaufman Drag Co. - ?? Advisable. Some of our correspondents will insist in seeding us for publication, neighborly visits from each other, which, as we have stated before, are nothing but right and proper, and a duty they owe each other, but is not a news item for publication at all. TheD, again, it seems to be an old stereotype "starter" with somp, "that the health of the community is good, at this writing," ard before they finish, they have some very sick, and perhaps some one dead, followed up with a long obituary. Tbey will excuse u?, but what we want and are anxious to have, i9 news items from all sections of the country and not sc much personals of above clase, jlease Clears the Complexion. Orino Laxative Fruit Syrup stimulates the liver and thoroughly cleanses the system and clears the complexion of pimples and blotches. It is the best laxative for women and children as it is mild and pleasant, and does not gripe or sicken. Orino is much superior to pills, aperient waters and all ordinary cathartics as it does not irritate the stomach and bowels. For sale by Kaufman Drug Co. Dr. J. B.
