Col. J. H. Frick was iD town Friday
on legal business and paid us a
pleasant call.
Mr. F. M. Sbarpe, of the Gaston
R F. D., was up Friday, and called

We were glad to meet Prof. L B.
Haycee, of Leesville, one of tbe best
educators in tbe State, in town Friday.
Cadet Carl Roof enjoyed bis Christ
mas with the "folks at home," and
has returned to the Citadel at Charleston.
Cadet Oscar Derrick, after spending
Christmas with parents, relatives
and friends in town has returned to
Clemson.
Prof. Bernard Bawl, of Clemson,
spent his Christmas under the parental
roof, and visited relatives and
friends in town.
Mr. W. S. Hook, one of Hollow
Creek's industrious citizens, was in
town Thursday, and bad the Dispatch
sent to his address.
Mr. Julius Ballentine, one of N. E
Young's popular dry goods salesmen,
after having a live Christmas at borne,
returned to bis work, in Columbia,
Wednesday.
Mies Lilla Smith, of Hilton, accompanied
by her niece, Miss Both
Smith, visited her sister, Mrs. J. J
Bickley, and other relatives in town

Aldrich has returned from Charleston

200.000 and 300 000 birds were teased
in competition in various parts of
the country, and some thousands of
these feathered athletes raced to
London from Retford and Branston,

Tbe weather was beautifully clear,
and a fresh wind was blowiDg to help
tbe birds on their way; and yet under
such favorable circumstances few of
the birds attained a speed of a mile

considered comparatively slow.
Better times were made not long
ago, when a thousand pigeonB were
tossed at Templecombe |o race to
London. Assisted by a southwest
wind, they traveled so rapidly that
many of them had reached their

One bird actually covered 108 miles
in ninety four minutes, maintaining
throughout the long journey a speed

To Save Togo's Flagship.
Tokio, Dec. 27.?The admiralty announces
tbat it expects to float the
battleship Mikasa, the flagship of Admiral
Togo, which was sunk by an

had a shooting scrape on the streets
of Jonesboro, Ga., on Tuesday and
Dorsey was killed, Milner being
wounded in three plsces. Dorsey,
who is a brother of Judge Dorsey,
of Atlanta, leaves a wife and six
children.
