Dispensary Views.
Daily Item, Deo. 12, 1905.
We might regret that we caDnot
become a convert to the Columbia j
State's views on the kqaor qaestioD, j
if we had the faintest idea that the
adoption of its patchwork prohibition
Bcbeme would result in the least good
to the people of the State, as a whole, j
or even to those of any particular

Stated views on the subject are briefly
outlined, which is reproduced in
another column, embodies in iteelf its
own answer. Observation convinced
ns years ago that prohibition. State,
county or municipal, is a farce and
breeds disrespect for law and decency
and brings all other laws into contempt.
The regulation of the liquor
traffic must of necessity be a choice
of evils, and until there is stronger
| evidence that the people are opposed
to the liquor traffic, as well as the
dispensary, than has been afforded
by the Brice law elections heretofcre
beld, in which the majority of the

voters reiuaeu tu pruuipo^-,
remain of the opinion that the conditions
that the State fears for the
8tate at large in the event of a blanket
prohibition measure being adopted,
will be realized in each county that
tries prohibition under the Brioe law.
If it is folly to try to enforce prohibition
throughout the State because
.T .. . ,
some counties oppose it, it is also
folly, pursuing the same line of reasoning,
to attempt to enforce prohibition
throughout a county, for in each and
every one there will be found communities
tb8t are opposed to it. If this
theory of local self government is
followed up to its last and logical conelusion
it will lead us to the individual
being left to determine for himU;.:
self the question of- sobriety or intemperance,
and we find ourselves at
g? the starting point.

In Praise of Chamberlain's

There is no other medicine manufactured
that has received so much praise
and so many expressions of gratitude as
Chamberlain's Cough Remedy. It is
effective, and prompt relief follows its
use. Grateful parents everywhere do

given at the first appearance of the disease.
It is especially adapted to cliildren

nothing injurious. Mr. E. A. Humphreys,
a well known resident and clerk
in the store of Mr. E. Lock, of Alice,
Cape Colony, South Africa, says: "I
have used Chamberlain's Cough Remedy
to ward off croup and colds in my family.
I found it to be very satisfactory and "it
