THE LEXIH6T0H DISPATCH. * Wednesday, December 20, 1905. Obituary. George Hamilton Schwartz, eon of Susannah and Adam Schwartz, was born in Lexington county, S. U, first of March, 1833, and departed this life at Dr. Knowlton's Infirmary, at Colombia, S. C, December 22, 1905, making his sojourn on earth 72 years, 9 months and 1 day. He was baptized in infancy, and later when he was a young man he ratified the baptismal covenant made for him by his parents, hv uniting - w 1 a himself with St. Jacob * JuvaDgciioai Lutheran cbnrcb, of which church he was a consistent and faithful member, serving as an officer for many years until he removed to Fairfield county, where he became a member of St. Andrew's E- L. church of which he was a member at the time of his death. He leaves to mourn biB departure one brother and two aisters, besides a number of other pg relatives and friends. He was a man devoted to his church and to his fellowman generally, and it wa9 a pleasure for him to do all the good that he could. But his life has come to an end, his pilgrimage is over and we trust that he is now "resting under the shade of the trees." The soul of origin is divine, God's glorious image free from clay; In heaven's eternal sphere shall shine, | A star of day. The sun is but a spark of life, A transient meteor in the sky; . There was a hearing in Columbia on Friday which is regarded as significant before the legislative committee appointed to check up certain State officials. The object is to v discover, the. four missing cash books from Secretary of State Gantt' office covering transactions amounting to many thousands of dollars. TbeBe are the books about which there was such a heated controversy at the last Bdssion of the Legislature. Tbe committee has information that these 10*1 bocks were not burned as was intimated. Clerk McCown testified Friday that be was absent in Florence when the books got lost, and Clerk McLaurin did not know bow the books got away. Secretary Gas it is sick and his examination along with that of Clerk Means, of the sinking fuod commission, is deferred until they can be examined together. Sudden Death. Mrs. Simeon Roof died very suddenly at her home, Saluday county, about two weeks ago. Mr. Roof was formerly ore of oar old citizens, and s member of the 20cb regiment S. C Y. Miss Holley Shealy died near White Bock on the 11th of December, 1905, and was buried iu the cemetary at that place. She will be greatly missed by many of the people.
