has come oat abont $1,200 ahead as a re
suit of the State lair. The money wm come
in very handy in the future as a reserve
fund for the promotion of the many thing*
which fall to ihe lot of the Chamber. A
meeting will be called for an early date and
the members of tie Chamber of Commerce
will be asked to discuss several mat ers
relating to the good of the organization and
of the city.
Strong efforts are being made to get
the government to appropriate a good
stun of money to be used in deepening
the Savannah river from Augusta to
tide water.
Five j ears ago the Baiter neighborhood
of this county produced not more than 50
bales of cotton. Now not less than 2C0
bales are grown. How is this lor agricultural
progress.
