Mrs. H E Amick has been quite ill for the past few weeks. Mr3 Caarlie Bmkuight, of the Shady Grove section, opened the Broad River school last Monday with ten scholars Mr. J J. Kesler is erecting a i ea pilor to his dwelling. Mr. Bennie Amick is assisting J E J Sbealy in his echool at BallentiDe Miss Lula Eleszer, who is attendin? the high grade echool at Cokes bury was home a few days last week. 5>u?ne of our people attended the Thanksgiving pjcuic at So. Jacob last Taursday. Report a nice time. Henry Sites is building a tenant house for J. E Haitiwanger. The ta'rons of the Broad River School Ds ret Nr. 81 have decided to build a Dew school bouse. Riv. G. H Pooser preached a mo6t interesting sermon at Shady Grove the third Sunday. He will probably preach bis farewell sermon the first Snoday in December at Shady Grove. , The farmers of this section haie * - - ? _ - e decided to ooin tneir cottou iur higher prices. If the farmers in ail sectioos wouid do this they would get their price for it. We understand that Mr. John , Daily has bought a place from E. A . Bouknight and will move there soon. Mr. j. Mr. Jasper Derrick, lovingly called by the people of the county ' Uncle Jasper," died suddenly at the breakfast table at his heme in Leesville last Monday morning and tbe news of bis deatn was a great shock to his friends. He was on doabUdly the best known man in Lexington county and enjoyed fcl e love and esteem of everybody evm to tbe little children. He was born near Leesvilie of Germ*D parentage ki 1838. making bi3 age 66 years at d 4 months, and enlisted in tbe Confederate army early in 1861 and came out of it at tbe surrender with an empty sleeve. He served as Treasurer aDd Auditor of tbe county for a number of years to tbe satisfaction of til and fidelity to his trusts. He was for a number t of year6 8 leading merchant of Leesville, but business reverses overtook him and he was forced to retire. Hie was tbe first st^re house ever built in Leesviile He was buried Tuesday from tbe Lutheran church there with Masonic.honors. The following Masons and Odd Fellows of this place attended the funeral: T. L Herman, S J. Leap hart. Rev. W. D Q lick, D. E George, G. A. Derrick, S8 IL George, Rice B. Harman, Geo S. Drafts, M. D. Harman, S P Roof and P. H. Corley. Messrs. W W. Barre and W Q M. Berley also attended. He was unmarried. A good man and useful citisei has gone to bis reward.
