Mies Bemie Wise, of Saluda
county, has been visiting her grandmother's
family, Mrs Eliza Wise.
Rev. M. M. Brabham has been
visiting relatives and friend near
Charleston.
Miss Bettie Werts, of Saluda
county, is visiting her uncle, Dr.
J. W. Kinard, and family.
Mi68 Maud Mack has returned
after a pleasant visic to relatives and

Bapid Growth Sills Soy.
B )6toD, Nov. 2 ?A victim of his
rapid growth, JobDny Whitley, of
Anirim, N H, died at the home of
relatives at lfralden, yesterday. From
a child Whitley was tall and rather
sickly, but it was Dot until he was
sixteen years old that it became apparent
that he was going to be an
unusually tall man. About a year
ago, on his twentieth birthday, he
had attained the height of six feet
and was still growing. In Bpite of
the efforts of physicians he contracted
consumption, which caused his
death.
During the last year Whitley's
growth continued at such a rate that
at the time of bis death be was seven
feet tall. Ia the last year of his life
he averaged nearly an inch a month.

father, Mr. .J Adam Amick, on November
1, 3905, Mr% Charles S. Huffstetler
and Miss Miry A. Amick were
joined in the bonds of holy wedlock,
Ruv. E J Sox. officiating. All the
parties are of Lexington county, S C.

to correct some popular errors regarding

Washington, Nov 3 ?By treating
the ground with hot lime experts of
the agricultural dapartment have
ascertained that sourness of ground
along the Southern tivers in the rice
belt is overcome and the productiveness
of the soil greatly increased.
Experiments along the line have just
been concluded.

A Marvin Carter, time keeper at
the Poe mill in Greenville* committed
suicide on Tuesday evening by shooting
himself through the head with a
I pistol. He was 25 yeare of age and
waB lately married to a daughter of
F. S. Mosher, superintendent of the
mill. He was in poor health.
Geo. W. Dewees,. for twenty-one
years ticket agent of the Southern
in Charleston, was arrested on Monday
for embezzling $3,321 of the
I road's money. The shortage covers
a period of six'months. Dewees has
confessed.
Joe Brown, a colored barber, was
killed while resisting arrest in Woodruff
on Sunday afternoon. Brown
was drinking.
