Tbe announcement of fcbe death of Dr. Edward Shelby Riuch at 6:45 o'clock this morning, at his rooms at the Infirmary caused much sorrow iD this city. His father Mr. J. Melvin R juch, of Edward, Mies , was with his son at his death. When Hamburg's citizens were stricken with the fever in its most malignant form Dr. Riuch volunteered to go there as a representative of the State Board of Health, leaving this city one week star\ loaf. I got back to my home in Arkansas after 3 six weeks' visit in South Carolina. I left Colombia, the 13th of September, at, 7:10 in the morning and the next day at 5 o'clock I was in Pine Bluff. I did not have much trouble in getting through. 1 will say that there was a big speculation on the yellow fever situation. 'We all had to get a health ticket, and then when the guards came through the cars he said that they were no good, although we had to pay for thefn, but we got home all the same. Mr. Editor, 1 wish to thank my many friends in old Sonth Carolina for their kindness to me while I was with them. They were so kind to me, and did all they could to make my stay among them pleasant and happy and 1 assure them that their efforts were appreciated. They made me leal young again. 1 will never forget them. The reunion of the Old Confeds. at Lexington was the grandest one that I ever witnessed. Ob! those good people of Old Lexington! I have heard that they give [ Arkansas 74 per cent, in cotton, but : they don't know what they are talking about. Arkansas won't make fover 25 per cent, and if the farmers [will hold their cotton for 11 or 12 |oents they will get it. C, Nov. 1.?News has reached Columbia cf the arrest of a negro in a Baw mill at Befchune, oharopd with the murder of Robert McDowell and assault on R. A. Porter at Camden. These prominent men were struck down on the street while going to supper a month ago. The negro had McDowell's keys in his possession. A reward of $1,000 has been offered.
