James Trotter, a young unmarried farmer of the Leesville section, was shot through the heart at the Union station at 4:45 o'clock yesterday afternoon by Wilber Mitchell, about the same age aDd also of Leesville, \ the two being fast friends. The weapon used was j a 38 calibre, the bullet entering j from the front. Trotter had been ! drinking, but the arresting officers say Mitcnell war perfectly sober. He gave as an excuse for the shooting that Trotter continued to slap his face, after he had several times warn- j ed him to quit and after walking I away from Lim. Eye witnesses say j the two men appeared to be jesting, ! Trotter striking at Mitchell in play, j as the two wer? waiting for a train home. A woman relative was the tirst to Trotter's side.
