Resolutions of Respect.
Whereas, it has pleased God in his
wisdom to remove from our midst,
our beloved Brother, Robert Hamiter,
who died August, the 6vb, 1905. A
true American has passed awaj; a
home has been made desolate; a luviDg
wife's heart has been broken;
two children are now fatherless?: a
multitude of friends monrn his loss;
Brookland Council No 35, Jr. 0. U.
A. M, has lost a member whose
place we caDnofc fil'; we lose a Brother
for whom none entertained ill will;
one who was universally respected;
and while we bow in humble submission
to the will of God, we offer
the following resolutions as a mark
of respect to our departed Brother:
Resolved, 1st. That in the death
of Brother Robert Hamiter, Brookiaod
Council, No. 35, Jr. O. U. A M.,
has lost a faithful member, a true
I friend and patriotic American.

mourning be displayed for a period

Horry's Supervisor.
Governor Heyward commissioned
W. K. Holt Friday as supervisor for
Horry county, to take the place of J.
L Boyd, who was suspended by the
Governor pending trial by the circuit
court in that county, two bills having
been returned against Boyd by
the grand jury.

Mangled by a Cotton Gin.
Batesburg Advocate, Oct. 5.
Mr. W. E. Able bad his right band
and arm fearfully mangled in Mr.
Perry Halls cotton gin on Tuesday.
Mr. Able has been brought to Batesburg
and is being attended by
Dootors Mitchell and Timmerman,
who have some hope of saving the
arm and part of the hand.
A Feat in Wireless.
An unusual fest in wireleBe telegraphy
was accomplished recently in
the transmission of an aerogram from
the station at Newport, R I to
Washington navy yard, a distance of
320 miles. Owing to the 'act that
the waves tr*ve!led over both land
and sea, the iucident has attracted
more than ordinary interest at the
navy yard.

Plague in Russian Army.
Paris, Oct. 4?The Matin reports
that twenty cases of the plague, ten
of which proved fatal, have occurred
on the Manchurian frontier, and that
the epidemic has attacked the Russian
troops.

Mrs. Clarence Markbam, of Cambridge,
III, on Saturday killed her
seven children with an axe?the oldest
child niue years old and the
youngest au infant in arms. She
then cut her own throat and died.

died and left all his money to a woman
who refused to marry him when
she was a girl.

The Southern Railway is making
unprecedented efforts to handle the
great crowds that will attend the
State Fair this year, by putting on
special coaches and extra trains on

Tho Columbia Evening Recoid
says that South Carolina branch of
the Cotton Growers' Association are
complaining about the difficulty in
finding a desirable market in the
city for the cotton carried there. It
is charged that a number of the
smaller towns can offer better inducements
to the farmers.
We somehow had the impression
that the creation of two new judicial
circuits would obviate the necessity
of special terms of courts. Such certainly
was the arguments of those
who advocated an increase of circuits.
It now seems that such was
not the case, however, as there is a
crying demand coming up from several
counties for special terms and the
same old excuse of "congested dockets"
is given as a reason.
Governor Heyward has pardoned
Patrick H. E Cunningham Leonard
Henkey and George H. Waring, three j
young white men who were convicted
and sentenced to serve six months
in the penitentiary for the Latta robberies.
It has developed that they
are entirely innocent of the charge.
They are free, but without work, '
homeless, friendless and moneyless
in a strange land and among strangers.
Sad indeed is their plight and
one that should appeal to the charity
of all humane and civilized people
the State over.
R W. Porter, who was with Mr.
McDowell at the time he was foully
murdered near Hampton Park in
Camden, was himself dealt a murder

he found himself about two miles
from the scenes of the murder with
a fractured skull- He has no recollection
of how he came to be where
he was found, but supposes he was
carried there by the person or persons
who struck him. His pockets
were rifled of their contents. He
was taken to the hospital in Columbia
where a surgical operation has
been performed, but no hope of his
recovery is held out.
