Carolina Cotton Growers' Association met in the court house in this .place last Monday morning. It was quite a respectable meeting, corns' posed of representative farmers from every section of the county, all of whom seemed to have taken a lively interest in the proceedings of the meeting and seemed\to be determined to stand by the Southern assooia* tzon and will undoubtedly hold their eotton a reasonable time for 11 cents, many of whom are in a position to do so without inconveniencing themselves or family. Mr. j\ H. Hyatt of Columbia, was present and made an interesting and instructive address which was given the closest attention. He spoke of the cotton situation, good roads aod bridges and the cultivation of the different crops in general Congressman Lever was the next - speaker and spoke of the aims, objects and purposes of the association and claimed that no matter.bow high the standards of the organization, . - unfortunately the farmers would not pull and stick together- He gave as illustrations the fate of the Grange Band the Alliance. Capt. J. H. Counts of Irmo, was ' : ' elected President for the ensuing ? - year, with power to select a vicepresident from each township. Great preparations are being made by the people of Colombia and Sooth | Carolina Fair for the entertainment l?K" -i of visitors who will attend the annual g ^ V State Fair which is to be held io that city from, the 24th to the 27th of %& >< ;.C tins month.
