Thomas J. McCrary, a prominent
mill man of Newberry, died rather
suddenly at his home in that town
last Thursday.
Japan's Mikado has at last come
out of the sulks and has cabled his
thanks to President Roosevelt. Bet
ter late than never.

Judge Townsend has decreed that
the dispensary election in Union
was conducted legally and ordered
the dispensaries closed. Au appeal,
however, has been taken to the SuCT*
preme Coujt from this decree and
the dispensaries will probably remain
open until the question is finally
settled by the court of last resort.

We see it stated that the premium
list of the Ninth Annual Fair of the
Lexington County Fair Association
is out. We have not been favored
with a copy, but nevertheless, we
presume that one can be secured by
applying to the Secretary;. and we j
urge our people to make a big effort
to make the comiog fair a success by
making numerous entries of the best
ui
that the farm and household produces,
as well as attending all three
t dftva of the fair.

Monday was the time for the township
Pension Boards to meet and
accordingly there was a full meeting.
Mr. Paul P CUrk was elected Pension
Commissioner; Capfc. 3 M. Boof
was re-elected Chairman of the
County Board- D. T Hare, Secretary
and N. S. Younginer and Dr. J. J.
Wingard are the other members of
the Board.
The barbecue at Hilton last Saturday
was well attended. Messrs. C.
M Efird, W. H. Sharpe, Geo. Bell
Tim merman and Cole L Biease of
Newberry were the speakers for the
dispensary. The other sida was not
represented. That one at Hutto's
mill was well patronized. Congressman
Leaver was the only speaker.
