V., Lexington, S. C: Being unavoidably absent during the recent reunion, I take this method of thanking you for and expressing my appreciation of the honor conferred on me by you in e'ecting me sponsor the third time. I consider it very complimentary to myself. I appreciate, also, the hearty manner in which you acted in purchasing the banner for the sponsor so readily at the merest suggestion from me, and I shall be doubly proud of being sponsor at the coming State Reunion by having the banner to carry. I regret very much that I could not attend the reunion of 8 9 inst. I hope to be present at all (subsequent reunions while X am sponsor for you. With best wishes for the Camp as a body aDd individually, I am, Very respectfully, Ids V. Reeder. Macon, Ga , August 19, 1905 Is it Eight? Is it rig)it that a property owner should lose $5.20 to let a dealer make 50 cents ? A dealer makes 50 cents more on fourteen gallons of ready-for-use paint, at $1.50 per gallon, than our agent does on eight gallons of L. & M. paint and six gallons of linseed oil, which make fourteen gallons of the best paint in the world, at $1.20 per gallon; the property owner loses just $4.20. Is it right? It only requires 4 gallons of L. & M. and 3 gallons of linseed oil to paint a moderate sized house. Ten thousand churches painted with Longman & Martinez L. & M. Paint. Liberal quantity given to churches when bought from W. P. Roof. "Woe Tjs TTato the Colored Rase" FloreDce, Aug. 25?Part of the colored population of the city is in quite a sad state of miod over the appearance of a strange spider which they say posseses the faculty of writing. They declare it is a warning from heaven that the day of judgment is near at hand and in consequence are having some warm revival meetings, many having become converted and sanctified. The spider, it seems, is a strange one, not like any ever seen before. It is about the size of a silver dollar and spins a peculiar shaped web The interpreter says it forms the letters "W. B. U. T. C. Rwhich he interprets, "Woe Be Uato The Colored Race." Negroes from miles around have come to view the spectacle and one of the colored ministers, it is said, has preached a sermon on its significance, comparing it to the hand writing on the wall. Intelligent parties who have seen the won derful sight see nothing straDge about it. What is referred to as writing they say is simply a Y-shaped web, yet it is doing a great work among the negroes here. Sick headache results from a disordered condition of the stomach and is quickly cured by Chamberlain's Stomach and Liver Tablets. For sale by The Kaufmann Drug Co. Mr. fruiter's Positive Denial. Attorney General Gunter, who is Biek at the Columbia hospital, has made the following statement as to the testimony given before the committee yesterday: "The hearsay statement of the witness Fant was shown Attorney General Gunter at the Columbia hospital last evening, aBd he said it was most infamously false that he had ever asked, received, expected or wanted any compensation or reward j Our Buyer is always in se \ suit the wants xoods trade, and ample cash enables ns to g and everything kept in a First Class Store Sfroof Jjl Ifa m for aiding anybody anywhere to obtain a poBition or office connected with the dispensary or any other governmental agency. Why hie name should be connected with such statements he cannot conceive. That he has never importuned any of the governors for such favors, as will bs borne out by the governors themselves. No truthful man can be found who will say that be ever paid him anything. Of course, his name may have been hawked without his knowledge by designing persons; if so, such person should, and must be, held accountable, and be intends to use every effort to find out if such is the case, just as soon as be is able to leave the hospital." Public is Aroused. The public is aroused to a knowledge of the curative merits of that great medicinal tonic. Electric Bitters, for sick stomach, liver and kidneys. Mary H. Walters, of o-ib St. Clair Ave., Columbus, O., writes: "For several months I vras given np to die. I had fever and auge, my nerves were wrecked; I conld not sleep, and my stomach was so weak from useless doctors' drugs that I could not eat. Soon after beginning to take Electric Bitters, I obtained relief, and in a short time I was entirely cured." Guaranteed at The Kaufmann Drug Co's. drug store; price 50c. Cruelty to Animals. Columbia Record. The police are paying close attention to violations of law in reference to cruelty to animals, and every case which comes under their notice, or is called fco their attention, is promptly acted upon. This morning they arrested a negro boy, "Willie Hobbe, who had most fiendishly beaten a poor mule attached to a City Transfer Co'a. wagon. The animal could barely walk. Great whelps were upon its sides, and to anyone who saw it it was difficult to repress a feeling that a similar punishment applied to him would not be too severe. \ Wages Increased. Boston, Aug. 25 ?By the decision of Judge Weutwortb, special arbitrator, 6 000 union carpenters received an increase from thiity-seven and a half to forty-one cents an hour for eight hours a day, and double time instead of time and a half for over time, and eight instead of nine hours a day for all shop and mill hands. A little forethought may save you no end of trouble. Anyone who makes it a rule to keep Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy at hand knows this to be a fact. For sale by The Kaufmann Drug Co. i Bessie Thompson, colored, who was tried at, t.hfl last term of the Court of General Sessions for this county, and sentenced to pay a fine of $100 or serve eight months in the penitentiary for shooting another colored woman in Batesburg, took the months and was carried to Columbia Thureday.
