Editor and Friend?: My recent visit to your county, my old home county, was much enjoyed. I met numerous relatives and friends who seemed giad to see me and spread tender fried chicken before me as proof of my welcome. There was one peculiar incident. I met Thomas Rauch everywhere I went. At Lexington and be was then; at Hiiion and be was there. I wanted to visit a neighbor's watermelon patch one night and I wa3 afraid for fear he would be there. I went on back to Columbia and he was there. He may not be a "fruror," but I don't kuow. Saw "Bass'' Meetze too, the jolly old fellow, and he never gets a bit older. The crops were looking good and everybody seemed to be feeling good in antieipation of a great big harvest and a great big price, a pocketful of money and solid comfort. Washington, Aug. 18?The State Department has received a mail report from Consul Oret', at Kingston, Jamaioa, concerning the arrest of Dr. Frank Clark, of Boston, for making photographs cf British fortifications. He says that Clark has been released, his father, E W. Clark, of Boston, furnishing bail, but that the former will be tried August 28th upon the charge. Clark did not suffer while in prisoD, but was treated well. Tne codsuI eays that there seems to be no doubt that Clark technically violated the law, but that he had no intention of so doing, although a man of his learning ought to have known better. Arrangements have been made to have competent counstl defend him, aDd there iB no doubt that he will be given a fair trial. Y The keel plates of the Kansas were laid February 10, 1904. She is known as a 450 foot battleship, and her contract calls f< r a maintenance of 18 knots speed for four consecutive hours. Gaudet, who resides in the parishes contiguous to New Orleans. He went from Jefferson to bis home in St. John and was there set upon by several guards and brutally beaten and the parish health officer refused to recognize the health certificate which he brought from the parish health officer of Jefferson that he had not been near any infection for six days. A Warning to Mothers. | Too much care cannot be used with i small children during the hot weather of the summer months to guard against bowel troubles. As a rule it is only necessary to give the child a dose of castor oil to correct any disorder of the bowels. Do not use any substitute, but give the old fashioned castor oil, and see that it is fresh, as rancid oil nauseates and has a tendency to gripe. If this does not check the bowels give Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy and then a dose of castor oil, and the disease may be checked in its incipiency and all danger avoided. The castor oil and this remedy should be procured at once and kept ready for j instant use as soon as the first indication j ' of any bowel trouble appears.
