The Coast Squadron U. S. IT.
The Davy department seDds the
coast squadron out on a summer
crniee each year with a draught of
naval cadets for training composed
of 1st and 2nd class men, and their
cruise is up the New England coast.
It covers a period of time from June
31st to August 31, and it is a time
which the middies wish to say "I
have done mine." Their drill and
study is very strenuous.
The Texas is flagship of the squadron
and it was excused from taking

The hospitality which was shown
us by the people of Rockland almost
qnal9 that of the South. This place
has been the squadron's headquarters,
and consfquently, our ehip remained
here the entire time and we
have enjoyed many entertainments,
each as dinners, outings on the summits
of Mount Batty Balls, etc.
The Texas Pleasure Club gave a
farewell ball at Oakland park last
Friday evening, which proved to be
a great euccess. About a thousand
persons attended and every one waB
loud in their praise for the tars and
their cordial way of entertaining.
Prompted by a previous ball given
the city by the club, tbe management
secured a civilian oobestra to
furnish music to dance by and placed
tbe flagship ochestra in tbe baod
stand to entertain those who did not
wish to dance. Tbe _ night was an
ideal one for the occasion and the
ball and grounds were decorated
beautifully with flags and colored
lights. We regret very much to
leave such a land of pleasure, but
Jack will kiss his lover good bye
until next summer, when of course,
the grand time will be repeated.

A Touching Story
is the saving from death of the baby girl
of Geo. A. Eyler, of Cumberland, Md.
He writes: 44 At the age of 11 months,;
our little girl was in declining health
with serious throat trouble, and two
physicians gave her up. "We were almost
in dispair, when we resolved to
try Dr. King's New Discovery for Consumption,
Coughs and Colds. The first
bottle gave relief; after taking four
bottles she was cured, and is now in
perfect health." Never fails to relieve
and cure a cough or cold. At The
Kaufmann Drug Co's. drug store; 50c.

Twelve Cents Cotton,
New Orleans, Aug. 10.?"We will
bu9t Wall street/' is the way the
badges are reading that the cotton
planters of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi,
Arkansas, and others of the
states of the Cotton Belt are wearing.
The cause of this agitation will in all
probability lead to the roost strenuous
fight that has yet taken place
between the enemies of cotton and
planters through their organization,
the Southern Cotton Association.
Theodore H. Price has been quoted
by his following all over the country
to the effect that he has Wall street
behind bim solid, and that oe will
sell cotton down to 9 cents this week
' j ?
ana lower next weeK.
Farmers in tbeir county organizations
have passed resolutions patting
fineB upon any member who
will dare come forward and offer to
sell cotton at less than 12 cents.
Many farmers say they will burn it
before selling at a less price.

This fact is well known to druggists
everywhere, and nine oat of ten will
give their customers this preparation

Witmer, a prominent druggist of Joplin,
Mo., in a circular to his customers, says:
"There is nothing on the market in the

Biennial Sessions.
The special commission appointed
to consider the biennial sessions matter
has not met yet, bat a session is
expected shortly. Ic will be remembered
that at the last session of the
Legislature the constitutional amendment
voted on favorably by the people
was not adopted, which it should
not have been. The judiciary committee
to whom the matter was referred,
reported back a number of
objections Co a bill passing at that
session, and finally it was decided to
refer the whole question to a special
committee to sit during the recess
8Dd report at the next session.
The bill, however, will come up at
a right time. Next year is a political
year and there will be many
that will d all tbey can to prevent
the bill from passing either the House
or the Senate.
A Warning to Mothers.
Too much care cannot be used with
small children during the hot weather
of the summer months to guard against
bowel troubles. As a rule it is onlynecessary
to give the child a dose of
castor oil to correct any disorder of the
bowels. Do not use any substitute, but
give the old fashioned castor oil, and
see that it is fresh, as rancid oil nauseates
and has a tendency to gripe. If
this does not check the bowels give
Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea
Remedy and then a dose of castor
oil, and the disease may be checked in
its incipiency and all danger avoided.
The castor oil and this remedy should
be procured at once and kept ready for
instant use as soon as the first indication
of any bowel trouble appears. This is
the most successful treatment known
and may be relied upon with implicit
confidence even in cases of cholera
infantum. For sale by The Kaufmann
