The Law and Order League advocates the following changes in the jury law: First, that the number of names to bs put in the jury box to be limited to the number of jurors actually needed for the courts of each year. Second, That the defendant in criminal cases shall be allowed five arbitrary otjiCtions. Third, That the duty of listing the jurors be devolved on three jury commissioners to be appointed by the Governor from names selected by the Circuit Judges. The Clerk, the Auditor and the Treasurer to draw the panels as a present. Fourth, The submission to the people of a chaoge in our present constitution allowing ten men of a jury to render a verdict. Provided that capital punishment shall only be inflicted when juries are unanimous. + ? It is announced that as a result of the reorganization of the Cotton Duck company, which owns the mill in this city, some extensive improvements will be made shortly on the eleven mills in the trast. About $1,000,000 will be expended for thi9 purpose and the plans call for & great deal of new machinery and the enlargement of some of the plants. The new company is known as the Consolidated Duck company and takes over the Mt "Vernon-Woodbury Duck company and the United States Duck corporation. Its capital in money, stocks and bonds amounts to about $27,000,000 and the merger is said to be the most successful of the ones recently put through amoDg the large corporations.
