To Be Tried in Lexington.
Colurpbia Evening Record.
The case of Henry Planter, colored,
will be tried in the Lexington court.
Planter is a negro who is charged
with the murder of his wife, the body
being found in Broad river. Planter
wsb arreBted and released by the
coroner's jury and afterwards rearrested
on evidence obtained by
officers of tfie law. Solicitor Timmerman
after studying the case de
cided that the body was found on the
Lexington side and that under the
law it would be necessary to transfer
the case to Lexington county. This
could not be done under a change of
venue and it would be necessary to
nol pros the case in this county and
Bwear out a warrant in Lexington
county where the trial will take place. ,
Planter will accordingly be taken to
Lexington. (

Sermonetto
By Rev. Wm. Foster.
"For in much wisdom is much
grief: aDd he that increaseth knowledge
increaseth sorrow. Eccl. Ft
chap, end 18:h verse.
Man's destiny in this life is indelibly
written by the finger of God.
"He cometh forth, like a flower and
is cut down, he fieeth also like a
Bhadow, and continueth not. The
days of man's life are three score
years and ten, but- * if by reason of
strength they be four score, yet is
ofronoth lp.hnr and sorrow, for
I1 U i i
it is soon cot off and we fly away/'
The more wisdom a rmn gsios the
less opioioD he has - of himself, -for
be learns that sll flesh is as grass
and all the glory of man as the flower
of grass; the grass withereth and
the flower thereof falleth away, but
the word of the Lord endureth forever,
and this is the-word which by
the gospel is preached unto us.
For in much wisdom is much grief;
and he that increaseth knowledge,
increaseth sorrow. The wise man
grieves over lost opportunities of doing
good to his fellow man. Grieves
over the general frailty of mao, and
bis ultimate destinj; knowing there
is none good no not one; ana that all
must soon appear at the judgment
seat of Christ to give an acccunt for
the deeds done in the body. Nothing
in this life will brighten man's
pathway more than to keep a con-1
science void of offense toward Ciod
and toward fellow man. This should
be the heartfelt prayer of every
thoughtful man: "So teach us to
dumber our days that we may apply
3ur hearts UDto wisdom. That we
may increase in knowledge and grow
in grace, until our knowledge shall
b9 like a river and our righteousness
[ike the waves of the sea. No woiks
mortals entitle them to boast."
When you have done all that you
3an do, say we are unprofitable servants
and have only done what we
mght to have done. God dwells
with the humble penitent and with
:he contrite heart, and says when
;hou passest through the waters I
will be with thee, and through the
rivers they shall not oveiflow thee,
ind when thou walkest through the
are thou shalt not be burned.
.Ybove rubies is wisdom's price,
Outsliinging purest gold;
fn our as-e there's nothing: so nice,
Nor was in days of old.
[t guides to fields of endless rest,
It- leads to pastures green;
[t is an emblem of the blest.
The brightest jewel seen.
Ct comes to man from God above,
The source of all that's good;
An earnest of the Saviour's love,
The Rock that's always stood.
Let each one strive this gift to gain,
And walk in wisdom's ways;
That he with Christ may always reign,
And sing the Master's praise.

Hannibal Hamlin's Client. I
Hannibal Hamlin, for many >eare
a United States Senator from Maine, |
and vice president during the Civil
war, was wont to tell the following
story on himself, says the Boston j
Herald.
An Englishman by the name of
Pearson while passing along the
main street in Bangor stepped in a
hole in the sidewalk, and falling,
broke his leg. He brought suit
against the city for Si,000 and engaged
Hamlin for counsel.
Hamlin won his c-'-se, but the city
appealed to th-j Supreme Court.
Here, also, the decision was for
Hamlin's client.
After settling up the claim, Hamlin
sent for his client and handed
him SI
"What's tbit-?" asked the Englishman.
"That's your damsger, after taking
out my fee, the cost of appeal, ar-d
several otber expenses," eaid Hamlin.
The Englishman looked at the
dollar, aDd then at Hamlin. "What's
the matter with thit?" he p*:d, "is it
bad?''

! According to The Daily Tele|
graph's Tien TsiD correspondent a
Japanese forward movement has al
| ready commenced in spite of the
I rainy season. The Daily Telegraph's
{ Tokio correspondent gives an ini
teresting idea of the situation from a
j correspondent who is said to be in a
good position to know the actual
facts. This correspondent says that
the principal Russian depot is at
Gunshu pass, where many light
railroads are being constructed
northward to facilitate retreat. Lieut.
GeD. Linevitch, bewildered by the
| strategy of the Japanese, is making
repeated recoDnoissances and throwing
out innumerable scouts.
Nevertheless, at th3 present moment,
the correspondent says all his
army is completely enveloped. The
Japanese army has made a circle a
hundred miles in circumference
around Linevitch and is gradually
closing in.
The Japanese military correspondent
of The Morning Post says the
Russian evacuation of Omoso shows
that Gen. Kawamura's "Army of the
Yalu,'* despite the difficulties met
with over a mountainous country, has
arrived in time to synchronize with
tbe movements of tbe Japanese armies,
and the correspondent adds,
stirring events are imminent.
Huge Task.
It was a huge task, to undertake the
cure of such a bad case of kidney disease,
as that of C. F. Collier, of Cherokee,
la., but Electric Bitters did it. He
writes: "My kidneys were so far gone
I could not sit on a chair without a
cushion; and suffered from dreadful
backache, headache and depression. In
Electric Bitters, however, I found a
cure, and by them was restored to perfect
health. I recommend this great
tonic medicine to all with weak kidneys,
liver or stomach." Guaranteed by The

New York, June 14?Tbe fact
