Landmarks Disappearing.
One by one the old buildings on
Main street are disappearing. The
one occupied by H. M. Wingard for
the past eleven years, is being removed
this week. On Monday morning
Contractor John Fry will begin
the erection of a brick store 25 by
90 feet, fire proof and modern in
construction. The old building was
put there by Mr. D. E. Ballentine a
quarter of a century ago.

! While fishing in Black creek during
the first days of last week, Mr.
Dannie Gantfc, one of the champion
fishermen of the Edisto, and Dr. Blue
Mountain Joe Harman, a new resident
of that section, but nonetheless
j
a fisherman of wide reputation, while
enjoying themselves in their favorite
pastime happened upon an alligator,
beiow Grubb's bridge, on Black
creek, which measured seven feet
and seven inches in length. As the
old saying goes, "Music hath charms
to soothe the savage breast," Dr. Joe
blew the bass drum while Dan fiddled
on his gig and harpooned to the
tune of "Way down in Dixie," until
his alligatorship was lolled to sleep
and will never wake up again in this
world. Dr. Joe brought the skin to
town. It looked as though it might
have been a mate to one this Editor
caught in a net near the same place,
several years back, while he was fishing.

Enterprise.
We understand a company is-being
organized to build a telephone line
from Pelion to Lexington via Edmund
and Irene and that the parties
having this enterprise in hand are
meeting with encouragement beyond
their expectation. This line should,
and no doubt will be built, as it will
put the people of that section in
elbow touch with the court house
and make them have a fellow feeling
for each other.
