Counts, died May 10, 1905, at the residence of W. M WilsoD, in the town of Newberry. She was born near the town of Peak, in Lexington county. She was taken some months ago with what the doctors call purpura. The best medical attention W88 given her at Peak, and she still grew worse, and about May the let, she came to Newberry, thinking the doctors here could cure her. Dr. O. B. She was a devoted child, a kind sister and a devout member of Mt. Herman Lutheran church, Peak, S. C. She was 34 years, 8 months and 1 day old. She will be missed at home and by all of her friends, but one great consolation is, that she was a Christian young lady and her parents can rest assured that she has safely crossed the river and that she is new an angel in heaven. C., June S ?The scarcity of labor in this section is forcibly shown by the prices offered for hoeing out an acre of cotton. A few years ago 30 and 40 cents was the ruie. Now the price has climbed to Si.50, and, even at that figure, the necessary help cannot be obtained. The negroes have crowded to the pubiie works, where they can work three days out of a week and lie up the other three.
