Yorkville Enquirer. A citizen'of Yorkville who spent some time in Columbia recently was enabled through the good i ffices of an acquaitaace to make an inspection of the Richland distillery, and he has beea telling this reporter of some of the things he saw. "Well, now, I can't begin to tell you everything about the distillery because there is too much of it; but I'll tell you this. They make a terrible quantity of liquor and they don't make near all they sell. They have rectifiers' license, you know, and under this license they have a right to manipulate high wines and cologne spirits so as to make one gallon of chei-e into two or three gallons of whiskey. Yes, they reaily use corn meal aDd r>e meal to make whiskey and they use tremendous quantities of it. I saw a great tank that would hold twenty or thirty thousand gallons filled with mash, and while I was there I came to a place where a man k rrroa oitfinrr u f ^ bo /\^ n vc*(3 omiug an tuo cuu ui a trough through which a stream of corn meal was pouring. "The man was catching the meal up in his hand, testing the moisture, , and every now and then putting it to his nose to catch the odor. I thought this waa the discharge trough of a big corn mill at first, and ( that the man was merely keepiDg watch on the quality of meal that . was coming thiough. j ' I had heard that the immense ? quantities of slops supposed to come j irom a distillery of this bind were ^ used to fatten cattle, and I was j curious to see what the cattle looked r like. "There were not but twelve or fifteen head to be seen about the ? place, and I asked the man at the meal trough: [ "What do you people do with r your slops? A desperate, bloody battle is now waging north of rie pass. rhe Lesington Township Bonds The Supreme court Thursday landed down a decree ordering the Freasurer of Lexington county to nake certain payments on bonds it<ued in behalf of the building of the Columbia, Newberry & Laurens raiload. The bonds were issued by :ertaio townships in Lexington lounty and the holders . were innosent parties, having paid liberal irices. When the bonds became due, the noney to make payment was in the lands of the Treasurer of the county, )at he refused to pay it out on the ground that the act authorizing the >ond issue had not been complied pith in proper manner. The Su ireme court has decided that the )on..s are valid. The parties holding he bonds are: Edward Ehthcb, J y Robertson, E. W. Robertson, J j Mimnaugh and R. S. DeePortes.
