Echoes from the Campus.
To the Editor of the Dispatch;
All the students have now retur ned
from spending their holidays at home
and have settled down to th eir studies
and everything promises a successful
year.
The people of the town of Leesville
and the student body were well entertained
by "The Anderson Rhaer Concert
Co./' on Monday night, the 16th.
The little one-year-old child of Mr.
and Mrs. C. D. Barr died last Tuesday
and was buried the following aay at
the Lutheran cemetery. The bereaved
family has the sympathy of the entire
town and surrounding countryN
Dr. E. J. Etheredge is now in Columbia
in the discharge of his duties as a
Representative from Lexington county.
Mr. J. M. Meetze, spent bust Saturday
r and Sunday at the home of one of his

nice time.
A gentleman after having spent several
hours at Salist-o Hall with his fellow
best girl, on returning was sorry to find
his buggy filled with bricks and chairs.
The finest entertainment at Leesville
this year was given in the College chapel
last Friday night by Mrs. Jolly and her
Wax Figures, which was attend by a
large crowd. After this the audience was
invited to attend -'The Cariosity Shops"
given by the Freshman, Sophemore, Junior
and Senior classes, which were
beautifully decorated.
Miss Lilla Lindler, of \ Gilbert, an
alumna of the class of '1)1 r was on the
Campus last Friday night.
Mr. Baseomb Hardy, an aluminus of
'92, was also on the campus last Friday.;
Messrs. J. A. Caugkman and Jesse
Smith visited their homes last Saturday
and Sunday.
The young ladies are now busy preparing
for their annual contest which
will take place February'lTth.
I close with best wishes to the Dispatch
and all its readers.

Say "Murray's."
Wh^n you've got. a bad cough just say
" V?UKRAY'S." If a druggist gives you anything
but Murray's Horehound, Mullein and
Tar you're not g-nirg the best and surest
cough remedy. Make him give you Murray's.
Acts quicker and you get a 50c. size
bottle for 25c. Every druggist has it.
Is It Bight?
Is it right that a property owner
should lose $4.20 to let a dealer make 50
cents? A dealer makes 50 cents more
on fourteen gallons of ready-for-use
paint, at $1.20 per gallon; the property
owner loses just $4.20. Is it right?
It only requires 4 gallons of L. & M.
and 3 gallons linseed oil to paint a moderate
sized house.
Ten Thousand Churches painted with
Longman & Martinez L. & M. Paint.

committee.

Some days ago the woods in the mountains
known as London Heights, opposite
Harper's Ferry, took fire and
burned with great intensity. After
burning for sometime a series of explosions
were heard, which startled the
inhabitants, and the concussion was so
great that it broke windows in some
houses in Harper'Ferry, across the
Shenandoah.
The explosions were caused by the
bursting of shells which were thrown on
the heights at the time when General
Mills surrendered to Stonewall Jackson,
in 18fi2. These had failed to explode
when they were find, and had lain
there for over forty years.
A Father's Protection.

But experience shows that all things I
prosper when everything is high and
when all pursuits find a ready market
for their products.
The ginners' reports, like our politicians,
are doing us a very material harm,
for many ginners swell their reports to
more than they have ginned and the
Secretary of Agriculture can't get in
one million and a half bales of their output.
The late developments show conclusively
that the speculators in cotton
futures are not the "cussed "Wall Street
Bears" after all, but are our own Southern
men who have gone North, and the
Yankee lias but little to do "with the matter,
and another false impression has
been clinched and another wrong has
been traced to our own doors.
The Veering outfit of Messrs. Rast &
Pooser has commenced and promises a
good future.
Messrs. Witt & Reeves have established
a feed and sale stable and are doing
a very flourishing business. They
keep a good line of horses and mules and
buggies and wagons constantly on hand.
Mr. Croker has purchased the place

Dr. A. C. Langford, well known to
this county and who was ouce a citizen
of Lexington county, after a long protracted
struggle with paralysis and the
additional affliction of a broken leg, ha*
at last surrendered his life when the
vigor of his masculine form and iron
constitution could 110 longer contend
with the determined will of his maladies.
He liogered many months in Prosperiry,
S. C., his old home, attended by
the faithful and dutiful devotion of his
j daughter, Miss J. Langford. Dr. Langford
was a giant intellectually and physij
cally and possessed a kind generous heart
! and did a great deal of practice in his
life from which lie never expected anything
and for which he never charged.

The soothing and healing properties
of this remedy, its pleasant taste and
