Mrs. G. A. Goodwin is t-pending
some time with loved ones at home
near Blackville

Mack. May their pathway through

Oar friend, Geo. W Pound, has
been suffering with a kind of pneumonic
affection. We hope to see
him once more ei joying bis usual
go^d health.
The enrollment at the AlbeD Graded
school has reached the hundredth
mark Billy has advocated an extra
two mill levy for t-chool purposes for
years and Athen is the only district
in these parts that I know of having
voted it on. This school's appropriation
this session is $447 17, while
au adjoining district witnout the
extra levy gets $150 and a small
fraction. Already a number of boarding
pupils have entered this school,
who pay one dollar per month tuitioD,
i. e. those who are out of the district.
Some of the boys who have the
Alabama fever have come back with
the intense dasire to live in dear old
Lexington awbil? yet.
Mr. Boynton E Craft has resigned
his school at Clay Soring and has
gone to the Land of Flowers.
Mrs. W. D. Smith, who has been
suffering from an ulcer, is much improved.
R9V. W. B. Fallaw will Dreach at
Sardis the 3rd Sunday at 11 o'clock
and at Harmony the 4th at 11 a. m.
It is desired that all the members of
these churches be present as there
will be important business to attend
to.
The Union meeting of the Lower
Division of the Lexington Baptist
Association will meet with the King
Grove church on Saturday before
the 5th Sunday iust.

A Favorable Report.
Washington, Dec 7. ? Senator
Latimer's gocd roado' biii was favorably
reported today from the committee
oil agriculture and forests.
The bill provides for an appropriation
of $24 000.000. in three annual installments
of $8,000,000 to be divided
among the States \n proportion to
population. The States are to do
the work and pay one half the cost,
the national government paying the
other half.
The report is a strong presentation
of the question from a constitutional
and practical point of view.
South Carolina will receive about
$400,000 under the bill. There is
no probability that the bill will pass
at this session, however.

A Stir in the Senate.
The introduction of the Piatt bill
in tbe United States Senate created
considerable excitement on the Democratic
6ide. of the chamber and at
the request of several Senators portions
of the measure tW6re reread.
Mr. Bailey was the only Senator who
made any comment upon the meas
ure. With a tone of sarcasm be
asked if tbere was anything in the
bill affecting the representation in
the Senate from States wherein it is
charged that the Governor and not
the Legislature selects Senators
Mr. Piatt replied that the bill contained
no such provision.
With this the incident closed for
the time.
The Piatt bill proposes to reduce
the South's representation in the National
House of Repsentatives nineteen
members.

Pensioners, Take Notice.
The Pension Commissioners will

dates on blanks, etc.
The Pension Board will meet on
the 1st Monday in February, 1905,
and all new applicants for pension
will appear before the Board on that
day.
The representatives and all other
persons will send to tb6 Commissioner
names of all of the deaths of
those who were on the peosion roll at
last payment of said roll and have
since died, or moved out of tbe county
and any other information that is
