An accident, which happily was not a serious one, occurred late Wednesday afterDoon on the Southern Railway about half way between 0->tnmbia aDd Lexington. Train 134, due from Augusta at 5:10 p. m , was defaded, the Pullman breaking loose from the reel of the train. This oach was thrown over against an i embankment but the rest of the coaches remained on the ties. Geo. W IrwiD, of Baltimore, wqo had been selling jewelry and other trinkets at the Lexington County Fair, was thrown from the train and bis ]eft wrist broken and bis face badly Vbroised. That 01 hers were not hurt is little short of miraculous. The train, which was in charge of Conductor J. J Robertson, E ?gineer Holland in the cab, and left Lexsng v ton a little behind the schedule and was running at good speed A* the train neared the 114: mile post, wfcoch is three miles soutn of Ca)ce, the express car left the track, the passenger coaches and Pullman going with it. The eugioeer applied the air brakes and reversed bis engine but the train ran for some fifty yards before it could be stopped. The peculiar motion given to the train by its rough passage over the rail9 threw it to oue side and the Pnllmon rtaroarturi ifn OTflftfc Wt-ipht threatening to pull the entire train with it. Luckily jcu?t as the passenger cars Were about to fall on their sides, the coupling between them and she sleeper parted. The train ran a j short distance further and the Pullman fell against the side of the embankment. Among those on board were G^v. Hey ward. Attorney G-neral U X ' Gunter, Jr., Capt. D. J Griffith, Mrs. Allen M. Wyse, Mrs. J. A- Meetze, Mies Helen Bradford, and others, some of whom bad attended the v- Lexington fair, none of whom fortunately sustained injuries. The damage to tne read bed and rossties have been repaired and the wreckage cleared away.
