Presentment of the Grand Jury
STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
COUNTY OF LEXINGTON,.
Court of General Sessions.
To the Honorable Grand Jury of the
county and State aforesaid:
We, the undersigned special committee,
appointed by your body to
examine the public offices of the
county, report as follower
That, with the assistance of the
expert of your selection, we made an
examination of all the public offices
of the county and found them well
keDt. the records properly cared for
and have no recommendations to
make in regard to any of them. We
found ail of the officials courteous
and obliging and seemed to have the
business of their respective offices
well in band.
From the examination madp, we
find that each official had sufficient
funds in bank to meet the obligations
of bis office.
We find the dispensary system of
this county to be under good management
and the books of account as
kept by Mr. R L. Keisler to be correct
in every inspect and above criticism.
We have examined the improve!
ments placed in the Clerk's office by
the County Commissioners, are highly
pleased with the same, and consider
that the money for the same was well
spent and in the end will be a great
saving to the county.
At the time cf our examination the
county was free of debt and it will
oaly be necessary to contract a short
loan to meet the demands from now
until the taxes for the present year
are collected. We are informed that
the levy for this year has been made
sufficiently high to put the county on
an absolutely cash basis for another
year, and we desire to commend the
Commissioners and the members of
the General Assembly from this
county for so doiDg.
Respectfully submitted,
W. M. Addy,
James K. Swygert.

STATE OF SOUrH CAROLINA,

i
C^urfc of General Sessions.
To the Honorable R 0 Purdy, Judge
Presiding at the September Term
of Court for said Couuty and State.
We, the ^rand jury for said county
and State, beg leave to report that

rfquired of us at thiffterm, have acted
upon all bills banded us by the
Solicitor and have returned the same
into the bands of the court with, our
findings endorsed thereon.
At a former term we appointed
Messrs. W. M. Addy, J. K. Swygert
and Scott Shirey, as a special com!
mittee to examine the county offices
; ^nd elected F. E. Dreher, Esq., as
expert to assist them in the work.
Their report is herewith submitted
as a part of this, our presentment,
with our endorsement thereof. We
recommend tha* the said expert be
paid the usual fee of twenty dollar
for his services.
Our special committee appointed
to visit the poor house report that
| the buildings are in good repair, the
I inmates well cared for, properly fed
| and nursed and ail satisfied. The
I farm has been satisfactorily cultivated
and has a good crop thereon. They
also report that some clothing, bedding
and one or more bedsteads are
j now needed, ana we aeK mat me
County Commissioners attend to this
at once.
We have examined all of the pub
lie buildings of the county and have
no recommendations to make as to
any needed repairs at this time.
Reports have come to U3 from various
sections of the county that
eome of the road overseers have failed
to apply all of the commutation
taxes paid over to them to the roads
where it lawfully belonge. Some of
| the roads are in bad condition and
should receive every dollar applicable
to the working of same. We
recommend and urge upon the
County Commissioners to make a
thorough investigation as to what
I
has been done with the commutation
taxes paid out to the various
overseers and see that it is properly
applied to the roads. And should
they had that any overseer hus willfully
misapplied such funds entrusted
to him, we recommend that the
guilty party be prct-eeuted therefor.
We deem it but fitting and proper
at this time to express our high and
public appreciation of the services
of the Hon J. Wm. Thurmond. Tbi6

of the whole county, we deBire

faithful services he has rendered his
District. Through the able and conscientious
discharge of his duties,
we have been greatly aided, and
crime and violation of law have been
materially decreased. He shali carry
with him our very best wishes and
the plaudit of "well done.7'
We desire also to express our/ appreciation
of the courteous treatment
that we have received from the
Court and all of its cffiiers at this
and previous terms.

Three Jurors Cured
Of Cholera Morbus with One Small
Bottle of Chamberlain's Colic,
Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy.
Mr. G. W. Fowler, of Higbtower,
Ala, relates an experience he had
while serving on a petit jury in a
murder case at Elwardsville, county
seat of Clebourne county, Alabama.
He say*: ''While there I ate some
fresh meat and some soue6 meat and
it gave me cholera morbus in a very
severe form. I was never more sick
in my life and sent to the drug store
for a certain cholera mixture, but the
druggist sent me a bottle of Chamberlain's
Colic, Caolera and Diarrhoea
Remedy instead, saying that h6 had
what I sent for, but that this medicine
was so much better be would
rather send it to me in the fix I was
in. I took one dose of it and was
better in five minutes. The second
dose cured me entirely. Two fellow
jurors were tfflicted in the same
manner and one small bottle cured
the three of us." For sale by The

matter is governed by each county
