Lybrand's Barbecue.

Aiken county, near Seiverr, on Toes

and Review, after Baying that Mr.
Lybrand "engaged the Ls-xingtjn
Braes Band for the occasion and their
music lent enthusiasm to the occasion,"

A. F. Lever, of Lexington, wa? present,
having come down with the boys
of the band, and during one of the
showers he was invited to speak. Mr.
Lsver made a short address, telling
several amusing stories and statiDg
hie familiar reason why he was present,?i.
e.?if there was a red headed,
freckle-faced, etc , girl in the crowd
wbo wanted a husband, he was ready
to talk business with her. The spfci
fications were too severe and Mr.
Lever received bis usual rebuff. Mr.
Lever 6tated his views very strongly
upon Rooseveltism and the Republican
party in general. He declared
tbat be is opposed to the education
of the negro. His remarks aroused
considerable enthusiasm.
Welcomed Old Mammy. .

A beautiful youog lady, a member i
of one of the richest and mostaristo
cratic families of HendersoD, Ky.,
married a few years ago and went
with her husband to New York city
to iive. The affection between her
and her "old black mammy'1 was
very tender and the separation was
very hard to bear. After the young
wife had settled in the east she determined
to have "mammy" come on
a visit to her and sent the money for
her ticket.
Imagine the surprise of the prim
New Yorkers wheD they saw an old
colored woman coming through the
station gate suddenly pouocsd upon
by an elegantly dressed lady, who
threw her arms around the old woman's
neck and kissed her time and |
asraiD. Dropping her bundles, the I

old womin seated herself on a truck
and, drawing the lady upon her lap,
tenderly stroked her hair and exclaimed:
"My God, my babG I'se so glad
to see you, honey."
To ber the fiDe lady was only
the little girl whom she had tenderly
nursed in sickness and iu health and
on whom she had lavished all the love
of her simple heart.

news agency from St. Petersburg
says the war office announces the
receipt of a dispatch from Port

losses on July 11, the exact particulars
of which have not yet been ascertained.
According to the dispatch
the Russians recaptured all the positions
lately taken by the Japanese.
