He was accompanied by Mr. Karl Oswald. Miss Emma Ballentine has returned from a visit to friends in Columbia. Her friend. Miss Florence Melton, of Cberaw, accompanied her home on a visit. On last Wednesday "Dr. Blue Mountain Joe," placed on our table the first cotton boll. Now let's see what friend will be the first to bring us a bale of new cot' do. Miss Ophelia Hall, formerly of this county, but now of Iva, Anderson county, S. C., appreciates the weekly visits of the Dispatch and sends a renewal for another year. Miss Ida Reeder was in town Friday. She has been teaching a prosperous school at Norway and i? now spending her weil earned vacation at the old homestead in this county. A large Dumber of prominent joung men of Leesville accompanied the base ball team here Friday. They were a gentlemanly and handsome eet of young men and we feel in love with them. Prof. James V. Smith, an efficient end valued member of the County Educational Board, was in town Friday attending a meeting of the board. He came in and renewed bis subscription. J. vveir aaay is dispensing the "chemically pure" to thirsty customers during the absence of Mr. Caughman. A match game was played last Friday at the Lexington Base Ball Park, between Leesville and Lexington. The score was 6 to 4 in favor of Lexington. "Umpire, L. W. Redd. Lexington plays Leesville next Friday at Leesville. Thirty-two young ladies and gentlemen stood examinations for the vacant scholarships in the various State Colleges. Sixteen stood for the three scholarships in Clemson; four for the South Carolina scholarships; and twelve for Winthrop. Quite a nember of the echolarr, officers, teachers and friends of the Sunday school enjoyed a very pleasant time in Roof's Park last Tnursday afternoon, the occasion bring a box picnic In the afternoon rain came up which ended the pleasures of the afternoon. Garlington, former editor of the Spartanburg Herald, but now travelling in the interest of the Con- . federate rolls, was in town yesterday, getting up subscriptions. Quattlebaum, who is cow one of the most prominent attorneys of the Conway Bar and a successful business man of that grow- i ing town, in sending his renewal to 1 the Dispatch, sends his kindest regards and best wishes which we appreciate coming from an old friend and a Lexington county raieed boy. Col. D. J. Knotts was in town Friday and we were pleased to tave him drop in and shake hands. He reports extra fine corn crops in the Swansea section and says that the people are waiting to give the candidates a rousing welcome.
