Smith, who lives up on Twelve Mile creek, in order to keep up with the current events of the county, called in yesterday and bad his name enrolled smong the 1,784 Dispatch subscribers. The railroad authorities have a force of hands grading the long side track at the depot. This tract will extend from the old batting factory to some point beyond the depot, a distance of nearly a mile. Pelican, formerly Ballentine Lodge No. 75 I. 0/ O. F., are making arrangements to erect a handsome lodge room in this place. The ways and means and plans and specifications are being considered by a x>m mittee. We were glad to receive a pleasant call from Rev. Mr. Strick'and last Friday. He is pastor of the Lewiedale circuit of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South aDd is a consecrated and earnest Ambassador of Christ. The Independent Base Ball Club was organized here yesterday with Edwin G. Dreher, Captain and Sam P. Roof, manager. They will play the Lexington nine at the Lexington Base Ball Park next Monday afternoon. Since our last issue our office hss been decorated with cotton blooms both white and red. Mrs. Davis Swygert who has been here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Long, for sometime imder the treatment of the doctor, has been carried to her home in the Fork, not much improved in health.
