The first peaches of the season were shipped from Batesburg on May 20th by Dr. E. C. Ridgell, the leading fruit grower of that section. E. church, on Depot street, has been raised, and from the way it dow looks it will be a handsome building when completed. Mr. G M. Adams accompanied by his daughter, carried Miss Davis, a neighbor, to the Hospital for the Insane, Thursdiy to receive medical treatment. T. E Campbell & Co, have leased the plant of the Lexington Lumber Cj, and will do all kinds of wood work, besides handling rough and dressed lumber. Mr. Dave Harman, of Columbia, came over Friday on a visit to relatives. Dave is now a "Fire Laddie." being a member of the fire department of that city. Jim Jones, colored, has been arrested on the charge of stealing chickend and is now in jail. The stealing: was perpetrated in the lower Fork settlement. Toe Johnston base ball team batted our boys all over the field so badly that we have been asked Dot to publish the score, and we cheerfully comply with the request. Russel, accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Adalaid Thompson and her two children, of Abbeville, visited Mrs. P. L Harman, the sister of the former, two days last week. Mr. J. Talmage Wessinger has accepted a position with the Murray Drug Co., Columbia. He is a hardworking and industrious young man and will give satisfactory services to his employees. Rev. W. D Quick filled the pulpit of Rev. Mr. Henry in the Methodist church at Brookland last Sunday. He had a large and appreciative congregation. He administered the Lord's Supper to communicants. Batesburg has bonded the town in the sum of S20.000 for the Dur ? / t. pose of putting in water works and Blectric light plants, and for general improvements of the towD. The vote on bonding the town stood, yes 75;?no, 18. A letter from our friend, J. Z?b. Hutto, who now resides at Holt, Fla., informs us that he and his family are enjoying good health and prosperity, in the "Land of Flowers" The Dispatch finds a welcome place in that household. Caughman Bros, have moved from Macon, this county, to Columbia, and are having erected a large three story brick stable which is to be one of the largest, most modern and most convenient livery, feed and sales stables in that city. Banisters are being placed on each side of the roadway across factory pond. This safeguard is something that has been needed for sometime and we are glad that it is being put up. Capt. Austin Roof, with a force of hands, is doing the work.. The haberdashery of J. H. Eleazer, Columbia, is filled with a choice line of gents' furnishings, hate, neckwear and in fact everything usually found in a store of this character. The goods are the best and the prices are the cheapest. If you want to look nobby buy your furnishings from this store. Sunday was a very hot and sultry day, which proved to be the forerunner of a very heavy rain, which began falling late in the afternoon and continued until sometime in the night, breaking the long draught. It was a very refreshing and reviving one to the growing crops and came just in time to save them. Billy Felix kindly sends the names ( two new subscribers.
