The SuD-Flower Carnival in Colnmbia
next week from Tuesday to I
Saturday, promises to be on a very 1
elaborate scale, as no expanse has
been spared to make it so. Doubtless
many Lexingtonians will be
there to ei j >y the fun and take ad
vantage of the low prices the merchants
are r ftWiug on poods for that 1
occasion. Visit the capital city next !
week and you will not regret it.
Lexington does not owe a dollar ;
of indebtedness for any purpose
whatever notwithstanding she has
made many permanent internal improvements
most noticeable among
them is her roads, some of which
will now compare favorably with
those of many of her more pretentious
sister counties. Her educational
system has been vastly imDroved
and the standard of her

public schools elevated, all of which
has been accomplished on a cash
basis. Other counties have been
compelled to anticipate the fall col
lection of taxes by borrowing money to
meet current expenses and keep things
moving. Hurrah, for the grand old
county of Lexington. Three cheers j
for the efiisient fi-cal cfEcers and j
three cheers aod a tiger for noble
daughters ar.d her patriotic sons.

Dear Sir: Let's have a little private
talk by ourselves on businesf;
nobody else, please, read.
Yjuwantto koow how to do a
cheap job of painting, and have it
look good. Here it is: The cheapest
thiDg there is in the way of a
good looking job?say nothing about
its being good?is Devot; the regu
lar thing in Devoe.
The reason it: Devoe goes further
than anything else Lead andoil
is good-looking; don't go so far
and costs more than Devoe.
Devoe cost least of all; you don't
mind its lasting longer, do you? We
can't help it; a paint that goes further
lasts longer; we can't help it.
Yours truly,
F. W. Devoe & Co.,
New York.
