Experienced farmers say that the crops are needing rain. The crops in some eections are suffering for rain. The brick stores of Mr. J. M. Craps are goiDg up rapidly. Hon. John Bell Towill called in to see us while in town Monday. The iron fence around St. Stephen cemetery has been painted. W#? rpoflivfld a Dleasant call from Gol. D. J. Griffi.b, Monday. The sheriff now has nine prisoners for June term of court, all colored. Memorial exercises will be held in the court bouse next Tuesday at 3 p. m. It will be neck and neck with the candidates from now on until after the primary election. Mrs. Bosanna Shealy, residing near Amiflk'a few v. has been and is still very sick at her home. Miss Mary Swygerfc, of Peak, and the wife aod child of her brother, are visiting Mrs. James H. Hope. Uncle Anderson Sheaiy, of near Barr's, while in town yesterday called in and renewed his subscription. "When yon go to Columbia, call and see the nice Hdo of hardware at T. B. Aughtry & Co. It will certainly pay you to do so. The estate laDd of Wm. H. Meetze, near the depot, is being laid out for sale at public auction, including the homestead, under order of court. High grade shirts, fashionable neckties, and fancy hoes, at Msetze & Son. These goods are all up-todate and correct in style. Mr. Gatheld Caughman, of Columbia, who is clerking with the Martin Grocery Co , came over on a visit to his parents yesterday. Mrs. Rufus Sox, now of Columbia, formerly of this place, after spending several days pleasantly with relatives and friends m town, returned home Monday. Wanted to exchange a few Black Langsban and White Leghorn roosters for common laying hens?Plymouth Rocks preferred. Apply at Dispatch office. Lumber is being placed on the ground for the new church of the colored Methodist, on Depot street. The old building has been torn down and the debris removed. A choice line of family and plantation supplies is carried by T. B. Aughtry & Co, Columbia. When you want goods in this line give thein a call. We are requested to say that there will be a casket picnic at Mr. Jesse McCartba'a mill on the 12th of May, to which the public is invited. Good order is promised. Oar town is daily fbcked with commercial men, with choice samples of goods in all lines. Their presence here in so large a number is an evidence that Lexington is a lively bnsiness place. Mr. R. W. Kleckley of Switzer Neck, has our thanks for a mess of new Irish potatoes. They were very fine for so early io the season, measuring six inches in circumference. Peak Hews. To the Editor of the Dispatch: The wedding of Miss Myra Suber and Mr. Adam Eargle which was solemnized in Mouut Herman Lutheran church last Thursday afternoon was one of unusual loveliness. The church presented a scene of beauty with its tasteful decorations of white and green. Arches covered with white roses and garlands of roses were artistically arranged, and suspended fr-om a festoon of roses to the right of the altar was ttie wedding bell of white roses Dozens of lighted candles shed a soft glow and heightened the beauty of the scene. At five o'clock the straios of Mendelssohn's Wedding March, with Mrs. John C. Swygert at the organ, announced the coming of the bridal party. The ushers, Mr. Milton Wilson and Mr. Mike Hope fir*t entered the church, followed by the bridesmaids and groomsmen who were Mies Essie Moore, of Prosperity; Miss Hattie Hughey, of Newbern; Miss Eunice Eargle, of Spring Hill; Miss Burnice Smith, of Blaire; Mr. G. A. Poore; Mr. Ollie Eirgle, of Salesbury, N C ; Mr. Ben Wilson, of White Oak and Mr. John Mayer. Then came the bride with her maid of honor, Miss Mary Swygert and they were met at the altar by the groom and his best mac, Dr. P. H. Shealy, of LexiDgton. The impressive ceremony was performed by Rev. S. C. Ballentine. Immediately after the ceremony an informal reception was held at the home of the bride's brother, Mr. W. H. Suber, after which the happy couple left for Charleston where they will spend several days. Mrs. Eirgleis the charming sister of Mr. W. H. Suber and Mr. E irgle is a successful young business man of Peak. They have the best wishes of scores of friends. Boland Gregory, a highly reeppcted negro man of Peak, died last week \from heart dropsy. E. May 2,1904. White Hock Whittlings. To the Editor of the Dispatch: The cool dry weather has been unfavorable to gardens and small grain. Oats are a failure. The telephone system, recently inaugurated in cur community, has proven quite a convenience. Likely it will be materially extended next fall. The following Sunday school officers were elected last Sunday at Bethel: S. L. Smith, superintendent; S. E. Bickley, assistant superintendent; W. J. Ballentine, secretary and treasurer; and Miss Emma Ballentine, organist, with Mr. James Derrick, assistant. A librarian will be elected later. Regular preaching Bervice will be i .eld each first Sundav afternoon at Mt. Vernon, White Rock. During the summer months, the hour will be 4 o'clock. The following delegates to the joint conference, which meets at Cedar Grove church May 27 29ib, next, have been elected from thv, Bethel pastorate: Mt. Hermon, W. O. Haltiwangei; Mt. Olivet, R. W. M. Eieazer; Bethel, John S. Derrick. One will be elected from Mt. Vernon next Sunday. Rev. Z W. Bedenbaugh and Rev. S. C. Ballentine, president ond secretary respectively of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod cf South Caroline, will install Rev. S. P. Koon iu St Luke's church, near Prosperity, next Sunday. Rev. Koon is a Lexington boy, and is meeting with deserved success in this important field of labor. How about good roads being made an issue in the coming campaign. It may mean more for us than aDy other likely to be suggested. We throw this out for the candidates and for the people. Sunday last was a beautiful day, the best one for service tbat we have had since last fall, and the people took advantage of it. We attended Nazareth church and found a very large congregation. The services i were impressive and the sacrament J was administered to a large number ! of communicants. The congregations are growing at this place and the pastor, Rev. George S Bearden. is growing in the esteem of the people although it has been ten years since he be^an to serve them. We trust that the church may continue to grow. | It was decided to hold a protracted - service commencing on the first Sunday in August. Bro. James F.
