Prichard, Republican, former Uuited States Senator 1 im North Carolina, has been ap pointed Judge of the 4th Circuit of the Uuited States Court to succeed the late Judge Simon ton. Mr. S. G. MayfieJd bos withdrawn from the Congressional race in the secpDd district, leaving an open held for Mr. T. G. Croft. The second primary to fill the unexpired term of the late Hon. G. W. Croft will te held next Saturday. For a number of years Judge Simonton was prominent in State politics. He was appointed district Judge of the United States court, by President Cleveland, and was elevated by the same President to Circuit Judgeship which he held until the day of his death. County Convention. The County Democratic Convention met io the court bouse in this place last Monday and was organized by electing Dr. D. M. Crosson temporary chairman and Mesers. James B. Addy and John D. Farr temporary secretaries. These were then made permaneut officers and the organization made permanent by the election of Dr. W H Timmerman vice president, and Crfpt. D. J. The election of eight delegates to the State Convention was then proposed and J. E Buff moved that all delegates to State Convention be elected by ballot at once. Adopted. N. B. WaDDawaker moved that this resolution be reconsidered. Mr. Wannamaker's motion prevailed. Mr. Wancamaker then moved that Hod. A. F. L^ver be elected by a rising vote, as a delegate to State * ConvenveDtion. Adopted. Congressman Lever was unamiously elected. Then Mr. Buffs resolution was put and adopted, and the chair appointed J. Etberedge this resolution was amended by authorizing the County Executive Committee to have the words "jes and no"' printed on the official tickets instead of providing an extra box so that the people could express themselves on this question.
