The grain crop is improving. If
wheat is not damaged it wiil make a
good crop. Oats are generally thin.

Mr. Pink Crout's yesterday.
Mr. Tillman Sanford, of Newberry,
is visiting relatives in this section.

Miss Daisy Risinger, of near Lees
ville, spent a couple of days with her
cousin, Miss Leila Sbealy, last week.

Mr. W. P. Eargle made a business
trip to Columbia recently.
Messrs. A. L. and J. P. Eargle
went to Lexington last Thursday on

made a business trip to Prosperity

Good Friday at 2:30 o'clock p. m.
Mr. H. E. Eargle was the first to
plant corn in this section. We are
of the opinion that he is quite early.

C. H. Sparks, a negro murderer,
wa? hanged at Opeleika, Ala , uDder
excitiDg circumstances. Before
being taken from the cell Sparks
assaulted arid severely wounded one
of the guards with a knife. Sparks
was then pinned to the wall with a
pitchfork and the sheriff and deputies
overpowered and handcuffed him,
after which he was led to the scaffold.
The first drop was unsuccessful on
| account of the rope beiDg too long,
! and it was necessary for the murder!
er to mount the scaffold again. The
1 rope was shortened after this time
| and his neck was broken.
