Hebron church on Easter Sunday. Preparatory services on Good Friday at 2:30 o'clock p. m. Mr. H. E. Eargle was the first to plant corn in this section. We are of the opinion that he is quite early. March 21, 1904. Lloyd. C. H. Sparks, a negro murderer, wa? hanged at Opeleika, Ala , uDder excitiDg circumstances. Before being taken from the cell Sparks assaulted arid severely wounded one of the guards with a knife. Sparks was then pinned to the wall with a pitchfork and the sheriff and deputies overpowered and handcuffed him, after which he was led to the scaffold. The first drop was unsuccessful on | account of the rope beiDg too long, ! and it was necessary for the murder! er to mount the scaffold again.
