Negroes Give Advice. Aiken, S. C, March 6 ?The Bulletin, issued from the Schofield colored school, this week has the following unique advice to colored people, under the headl ne 4 Declarations:" 1. .Results are what the world wants, and we should like to impress upon our friends that long drawn out excuses will not improve their condition. 2. As it is becoming evident, more and more that the negro must face competition in every avenue of life, he must prepare himself to be as good a blacksmith, carpenter, etc., as may be found in the community in which be lives. A failure to do this means poverty, crime etc. 3 From every community in the South comes the testimony that selfrespecting negroes win the esteem and good will of their white neighbors. Let tbi's class among our people be increased by the thousands. 4 Poultry raising, bee culture, etc., auiODg the Degro farmers, mean a step towards the higher branches of agriculture and a departure from the old "rut" of cotton. 5. The following counsel will do good: 6. An effec ive campaign should be instituted in every community against ignorance. Combine the scattered school bouses to central points, engage competent teachers, establish a small library, hold educational rallies and the monthly farmers' institutes. (1) Be reliable, trustworthy and industrious. (2) Do not buy whiskey, souff, etc. (3) Purchase chairs, pictures, knives, forks, other household necessities and subsoribe to a good newspaper with, whiskey, tobacco, cheap jewelery and ribbon money. (4) Do not stand on corners, loiter j around the depot, act boisterous on the street, crowd the court house and patronise the excursion. You lose self respect. (5) Save twenty-five cents out of every dollar you earn. (6) Do Dot set a bad example for your children. (7) Buv land if only an acre, and build homes. (R) Do not sell your crops before XV they fere made. (9) Raise your vegetables, molasS6B, meal, etc, at home. (10) Help establish character for the race by comiDg to town some other day save Saturday. (11) Do Dot tolerate immoral preachers, unfit teachers or any other hindrance to progress in your community. (12) Cultivate a high regard for the womeu of all races. During the receDt conference at this colored school one man said that he bought no hour for eleven years, then he^bad saved enough from what might have gone for ribboD, tobacco and whiskey to gratify reasonable desires, and he then bought a barrel of fl)ur and distributed it among bis grown children and his own household. Another bought no meat except jowls, and cracked the jawbones for marrow to grease the pan, and practice puch economics until his savings brought bim larger means. These were not miserly economics, but a cboseD road to better conditions. Both of these men now own their farms and are prosperous is comment J _ J neeaeu. Tragedy Averted. "Just in tbe nick of time our little boy was saved1' writes Mrs. W. Watkins of Pleasant City, Ohio, "Pneu moaia had played sad havoc with him and a terrible cough set in besides Doctors treated bim, but he grew worse every day. At length we tried Dr. Kiog'e New Discovery for Consumption, and our darling was saved. He's now sound, and well."
