Town Ordinance.
For the Purpose of RiisiDg Revenue
for the Ordinary Expenses of the
Town of LexiDgtoD, S. C., for the
Fiscal Year A. D. 1904.
Be It Obdaixed by the Town
Council of the Town of Lexington,
in council assembled, and by the
authority of the same.
1. That from and after the ratification
of this ordinance it shall be
unlawful for any person or persons,
firm or corporation following the
trades, occupations, businesses professions
or callings enumerated in
this ordinance to do or conduct or
transact any business connected with
any of said trades, occupations, businesses,
professions, or callings without
first paying for and obtaining
from the Treasuaer of the Town a
license so to do, according to the
following scale:
Life Insurance Companies or
Agents each seventy-five cents per
day, three dollars per week, five dollars
per year; Fire Insurance companies
or agents each seventy-five cents
per day, three (3) dollars per week,
five (5) dollars per year; Hotels or
boarding bouses accepting or solicit
iog transient boarders each fifty (50)
cents per week, one and one-half dollars
per month, three (3) dollars per
year; Cotton seed buyers each one
(1) dollar per*week, two (2) dollars
per month, five (5) dollars per year;
Cotton buyers each one (1) dollar per
week, three (3) dollars per month,
five (5) dollars per year; Telegraph
and Telephone companies five
(5) dollars per week, ten (10) dollars
per year; Blacksmiths and Wheelwrights
each two (2) dollars per year;
Newspapers and job printers each
five (5) dollars per year; Warehouses,
storing produce for the public, each
five (5) dollars per year; Barber
shops each one (1) dollar per week,
two (2) dollars per year; Livery and

year; Cotton Mills each ten (10) dollars
per year; Restaurants each one
(1) dollar per week; two (2) dollars
per year; Contractors contracting for
brick or wooden buildings each one
(1)?dollar per month, two (2) dollars
per year; Barbers, not working in a

each not more than two [2] dollais
per day, not more Ihun five [oj dollars
per week.
2. That for tbe purposes of this
ordinance a reasonable time shall
be allowed by the Treasurer within
which persons, firms and corporation
referred to in this ordinance
shall be allowed to comply with tbe
conditions herein enumerated, provided
that a loDger time than March
the fifteenth shall not be allowed,
unless some person or persons, firm
or corporation shall commence some
trade, occupation, business, profession
or calling after tbe passage of
this ordinance then they shall be
allowed fifteen days within which to
J comply with the conditions herein
enumerated.
3. Any violation of this ordinance
shall be punished with line of not
more than one hundred dollars or by
imprisonment for not more than
thirty days.
