To the Editor of the Dispatch: Another Christmas is drawing near and all seem to be getting ready for a merry time. Stove fines smoke all day and occasionally we catch in the wind the smell of good thiDgs cooking. A little mountain corn is coming in and eggs are much in demand, but at thirty five cents a d( zen, I sup'pose most of it will be taken straight. The girls are on the hunt for all kinds of toy3, and the small boys seem to be satisfied with other things, since the law denies them the toy pistol. If laws can be passed that really do prohibit the manufacture and sale of an innocent toy why not the law be stringent enough to prohibit the real article after which the toy is fashionj ed? This is a case of "strain at a l flrnttf nnrt Rwallnw r pftmpl." Cotton has gone away up to thirteen cents per pound in our market and even yet some are holding for higher prices L. S. To the Editor of the Dispatch: Generally speaking, our people i are happy and doing as well as Old Father Time will permit. Some small grain has been sown and more is still beiDg put iD, notwithstanding the continued cold weather. That sown in November is trying to Come up and oh, my, what little red weasley stuff it is. Maybe the llies and other insects will not iDfest it .in the spring. The school at this place continues to grow in interest as well as in number. The trustees and patrons will ? do tbe unique thiDg by calling a meeting ana voting on the special 3 mills tax and additional 2 mills and run the schools eight months in the year. They can very easiiy do it and not miss the money. Will they do it ? Let's wait and see. If its not done soon they will see their mistake in the near future to their sad (?) sorrow. Let's wake up and ' progress along educational lines. Messrs. Geiger Spires and Lemuel Sighter, two of our bright young men, are at home to spend Christmas aDd the holly days with their parents aDd friends. They look Dsat and handsome in their uniforms After the holly days they will return to the Edgefield College to resume > their studies. ; Mr. W. F. Mack is having some needed additions made to bis dwell ing. Also our merchant, Mr. B A. W. Sturkie Messrs. R J. Fallaw and Geo. W. Pound are the contrac| tors. Qold continues and the wood business is on a continued boom. Christmas will soon be here and many a gobbler will fall victims to the occasion. The little ones are 1 looking and waiting patiently for the arrival of St. Nick. We hope the little fellows will all be made if happy by his coming. y The orange buds are swelling and '* soon they will burst forth and send out a fragrance which we trust may cot die away before the blooming 1 of the flowers in May. We have already been informed of several and ere the first of January me thinks these will be too numerous to mena tion. Now comes a negro named Dantzler contesting for the seat of Hon. A. F. Lever. Death of Mrs. Eliza Ssay. | We are pained to mte the death | of Mrs. E;iz* Saay, which occurred I at her hotae yesterday, abiut three j miles above this place. Her death j was sudden aDd we may say, unex1 psetedly, though she had reached a | ripe old age, perhaps the only one of I the old original cuiz;)D3 of the Prov! ideDCG section left, and the last oi : her immediate family. Though somewhat retired she was a devout Christian, and her deeds of kindness and friendship displayed among relatives and neighbors will long be remembered. Truly she was an old mother in Israel, but her spirit ha? fl iwn from whence it came and ber beconniDg only calls those behind to follow her. She leaves a son, Mr. P. H. Seay, and a daughter, Mrs. Laura Monts, and their families aDd other relatives aDd friends to mourn her loss. Her remains were in terred in Providence cemetery todayPensioners Take Notice.
