There occurred a very unfortunate cutting affray near Rock Hill last week between two young white men. It is rumored that a recommendation may be made by Governor Heyward to the next General Assembly to increase the annual salary of the members of the State Board of Control from $400, to $1,500. Smallpox is authoritatively reported to be alarming the citizens of the npper part of Pickens county. Congressman Lever has introduced a bill in congress to erect a monument to Gen. Sumter, at Sumter. % F. W. McDaniel was killed at the Tuoapau mill in Spartanburg county by the blowing ont of the cj Under head of an engine last week. Columbia is making an effort to have an army post established for that city. The BdQk of Brunson, at Brunson, Hampton county, was entered by five men on Monday nigbt and $1,000 was stolen. The Orangeburg ice factory, owned by L. C. A. Roessler, was burned down by accident on Tues- 1 day. The loss is $25,000; insurance j $13,000. " j The statehouse is a very expensive building. C., JNovemfcer 16, 1903. He was born July 21, 1902, aged 1 year, 15 months and 16 days. In Paradise, where all is perfect blise, sweet little Girl sings the praises of his God. The interment took place in St. Stephen's cemetery, Lexington, S. * C , in the presence of a reverent and sympathizing company of relatives and friends. Pastor J. G. Tho merchant sent to tho cook a draft for sullieient money to pay his expenses out to Asia, and the cook gave tip his job and lias started for his brother's home. The interesting thing about the whole incident is the letter written by the wealthy merchant which accompanied the draft. In the first place, the draft was made payable in New York.
